Hey Everyone,

I've recently realized my generic GW brushes are complete rubbish and wear out rather quickly even with care, so I was looking at getting some of the Windsor & Newton Series 7 Miniature brushes in size 1, 0, 00, and 000. However, all of these brushes are proving to be incredibly hard to locate in the US. I've tried searching online and many places that stock them are sold out. I was wondering if any of you know any online shops that keep these brushes in stock, as I'm now drawing a blank as to where else I could search. Philadelphia isn't very big on hobbies & modelling in general, and the only brick & mortar hobby shop that I know of does not stock them. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Im sorry I cannot be much help as the only website I can think of is dickblick.com but I heard great things about another brand that I got coming in the mail that is slightly cheaper and has some nice features... They are called Back 2 base-ix and they run about $10 a brush and seem to be great for the money.

The brush head also can be screwed into the handle to protect the bristles but the only bad thing is they have to be shipped from australia as that is where the company is based in.
(I assume the w&n s7 is still much better but it is just a option)

I wouldn't use the miniature brushes. Series 7 watercolour are better- longer bristles, better spring and larger reservoir size.
Try art shops.

Quick search on amazon.com found them. Not sure if buying online is an option for you, but here are links for the brushes that you asked for.

Size 1 brush

Hope that helps!

I love my WN7 brushes, I always buy them from dickblick:

They're out of stock right now, but their prices are the best i've seen for them.

Thanks guys! I wasn't entirely sure if the water color brushes were OK to use on minis. Is there any real difference between the two aside from their length, ferrule, etc.? I was afraid that the water color wouldn't be able to handle acrylics, oils, pigments in paints, etc., thus destroying the brush and my investment. That should make things a little easier for me.

The miniature brushes have shorter bristles than the standard brushes. I don't like them as much, but I keep one around when I need to get the brush into tight spaces.

Aside from using different brushes for acylics and oils, watercolour brushes hold acrylic paints without problems. I use series 7 brushes and they work more than fine. I also use series 16, cheaper, "less quality" but still good brushes.
I heard of DaVinci brushes as high quality but "lighter" in terms of costs.
