I'm working currently on an army of Valhallans with a stalingrad theme.....the army isn't cheap because they're all old out of print models, so I've been taking advantage of what opportunities I have to save.....I was at my local craft store (Micheals in my case) and came across in the section that has the more unusual craft items (like gold leaf foil and pens and such) and found these, the Decoart Snow-Tex and the Delta Creative gloss interior varnish. I forget the exact amount I spent, but total it was only like $5....and the snowtex as 10X as much as whats in the citadel texture paint pots.



The snowtex I add as the final layer on the bases, and I mix the varnish with citadel hardcoat to get cheap water effects.

Some use PVA and baking soda, I for one use PVA and talc (not as great but does the job for a negligible ammount of money).

Looking good and awesome find on the cheap! I would recommend, using a foundation paint or mixing some sand into a mix lightish grey paint and lightly paint it onto the hems of their coats (I see you have some there already, but it looks off) then go over those same areas with the varnish+hardcoat to make their hems look soaked as well. Make it look like they are really slogging it through the muck.
