Howdy all!

After finally moving in and getting settled in, (College, WOO!) I decided to get started on a WHFB army. Noticing the lack of WHFB in painting and modelling section in general, I decided to log my progress of my Skaven army as it prepares for tournament and casual gaming.

I suppose a little background is in order. I have about 5,000 or so points of Dwarves that I play, and naturally wanted to expand into another army. My original choice was Orcs and Goblins, but after a long perusal of the WHFB factions I decided to go with Skaven. Although Skaven and Dwarves tend to have the same playstyle, I really wanted to focus more on the hobby aspect of this army, and my goal is to have a large, table-top standard force which will really look stunning on the battlefield.

So far, I have a BSB and 30 Skavenslaves finished. Seeing as 40+ man units are near-mandatory in a Skaven force, I've still a long way to go.

Here's the 30 slaves now. I went with a very gritty style, for the metals in particular I went with a coat of Mechanicus Standard Grey and then lightly drybrushed Brass Scorpion, Leadbelcher and Runefang Steel to give off the impression of incredibly rusty, shoddy armor.

They're a mix of IoB clanrats and the standard GW box clanrats. This irks me as the IoB clanrats have shields, which are an option I would rather not run on my slaves. While I'm sure it won't be a big deal, it's a minor nuisance.

Here's my Chieftan/BSB

I've painted a design on his banner, but I still need to finish some minor details before I post it. However, I'm quite proud of how his blade looks, the blood is a watered down Khorne Red

A Skaven army... that's gonna be fully painted...

Did you wash all the Rats? Some of front-row rats' faces look so clean, as if it was missing a wash, but it can be my mistake. The chieftain looks pretty damn nice so far!

You have my full attention, this is such a rare treat! Keep on rockin'!

Thanks! The skin is a base, wash, highlight technique, and on some of the front models it seems I've accidentally gone over some of the recesses with the highlight color.

Still working on cranking out the last 5 slaves for the 40 man unit, but I've been finishing up the BSB's banner.

The traditional skaven logo. While I wasn't happy with how neat it was, I'm actually quite happy with it now

This X shape really popped out in the Skaven book, and looked easy enough to replicate. This side is my favorite, the edge highlights aren't too thick

He doesn't look too happy. The wooden Skaven symbol which the head was mounted on was accidentally broken, but I think the head still looks nice.

And a preview of what's to come next. A welcome addition to my army, and I'm honestly a huge fan of the models. They fit easily and rank up without much issue.

Nice choice of colors for the free-hand! It's simple and very effective (and darn pretty)!

I'm not a fantasy player myself so I don't recognize the unit, but I sure as hell love the models I see!

Thanks! The bright green contrasted the rather dull blue nicely, I think.

So I've got some test models up for my Stormvermin unit.

I wanted to emphasize the armor on the unit. I made use of the GW dry paints for the first time, and was suitably impressed.

A (admittedly blurry) close up

Hey all! What with the holidays coming around, it's been difficult to update. But the army still continues, and has reached silly proportions from when I last posted.

Just a tray out of the whole army... (some clanrats are out as they're still WiP

Everyone's favorite section, rare.

My Doomwheel. It's 99% done, I really have to work on the banner, which was put on as an afterthought really...

Because of the nature of the interior, I had many, MANY sub-assemblies in order to paint properly. I essentially painted each wheel before assembling it, as well as the center frame. The result was worth it, though.

It's not a doomwheel without rats

Sadly, the Doomwheel often gets put aside for this guy, who's still, VERY WiP. I'm not fond of the awkward coloration of the bones as it contrasts the flesh, it's a problem I'll have to look into.

And of course, the obligatory Warp Lightning Cannon. It's not Skaven if it doesn't go BOOM!

I've been having tons of fun with the new Nihilakh Oxide...

My characters. The Warlock Engineer is often just slapped with a Doom Rocket, while the Grey Seer is still a WiP, with only the robe work done.

Some Rat Ogres. I need about 3 more minimum if I want to run them in a list, 3 on their own are too fragile.

And, of course, more rats! Clanrats to be specific, a unit of 20, (the other half still in the foam, needing weapon swaps.

There's more stuff that's been done, I've finished the first 20 Stormvermin and I've assembled another 20, as well as 2 weapon teams and a box of Plague Monks, but I'm in the process of shipping it all back to Ohio after the holidays, and can't be bothered to bring it out.
