So, while putting together my new Dark Eldar army, I came across an interesting question.

How many people put bases on the five crew members of the Raider and just use them as extra Kabalite Warriors? Is that frowned upon, or a common practice?

It's a more common practice for the wyches off the venom kit. The poses are a bit of a hindrance, but if you don't mind, go for it.

Can't imagine anyone making a fuss...its a kabalite warrior representing...a kabalite warrior.

Personally, I keep the warriors on the raider, if it's gonna be a designated transport, it just gives it a cool look, makes it feel more pirate like.

For the raider that i had, i never even did anything with the riders that it came with. The hanging positions that their mostly in would make it slightly difficult to really affix them to a base without building it up to look like their hanging off of gutters, or pillars, or some such structure.

Oh stop complaining, its for the greater good... Now get in the box!

I used to attach the warriors, but learned to just leave them off because of how fragile they were. Magnetizing the sails was a great idea for storage and transporting.

For the hangers, I was probably going to model them holding a trophy aloft (since the Raider comes with several of those) instead of hanging off a street lamp. (Although if I could find some good street signs, that might work too.)

Lol. I might pay barko to do that for me! That's a good idea.

I took the extra guys on the raider and put them on a venom. Then took the extra wyches from the venom and put them on the raider. This way each vehicle looks like its transporting the squad it is supposed to be.

But I can't possibly imagine anyone having issues if the hanger ons are not present on the model. They count for nothing as far as tabletop performance/LOS/Hull etc. is concerned. And as long as they are armed appropriately, why not use them in standard squads.

Do they not count as part of the model? I've received a little bit of crap from people because I left the seatbelts out of my Drop Pods. Are the crew of the Raider not the same as parts of the ship? (If there's a rule concerning this, it's never come up for me before, since I've never had a vehicle that has an actual person hanging off of it.)

I'm pretty sure the rules allow you to ignore banners, flags, swords, decorations, etc. on a model. There is no way the attached warrior could be considered part of the hull. Heck, I'm pretty sure you could even leave off the sail if you wanted to as long as your not equipped with aethersails.
