Hi all,

I'm torn between two lists I want to use for a local league. Any constructive comments and suggestions welcome!

LIST A:

Njal (Runic Terminator Armour)
5x Wolf Guard (4x combi-melta + PF; 1x Terminator Armour CML) - Droppod
7x Grey Hunters (Wolf Standard, Meltagun) - Droppod (Deathwind ML)
9x Grey Hunters (Wolf Standard, Meltagun) - Droppod (Deathwind ML)
9x Grey Hunters (Wolf Standard, Meltagun) - Droppod
9x Grey Hunters (Wolf Standard, Meltagun) - Droppod
5x Grey Hunters (Plasmagun) - Razorback (Twin Las-Plas, Hunterkiller ML)
6x Long Fangs (5x ML)
6x Long Fangs (5x ML)

Njal joins first GH droppod pack. WG joins droppod GH packs, CML WG joins one of the Long Fangs. Razorback squad starts in reserve and acts as objective holders and finishing of where they can. I think Njal would do well with his powers close to the enemy. As for flyers... not sure. That's the weaknes of this list, I figured I would ignore them and focus fire on the rest of the enemy. Comments on that would be appreciated.

Deathwind is there for swarms but actually those and the hunterkiller ML is because I don't know what to do with the points. I feel like there might be too much fat on this list.

LIST B:

Logan
5x Wolf Guard (1x Combi-melta; 4x Combi-plasma; 5x Frost Axe)
9x Grey Hunters (Wolf Standard, Plasmagun) - Droppod
9x Grey Hunters (Wolf Standard, Plasmagun) - Droppod
9x Grey Hunters (Wolf Standard, Plasmagun) - Droppod
9x Grey Hunters (Wolf Standard, Plasmagun) - Droppod
6x Long Fangs (5x ML)
6x Long Fangs (2x ML; 3x LC)
6x Long Fangs (5x MM) - Droppod

Logan and Combi-melta WG joins MM Longfangs on the drop. Rest of the WG joins the other GH squads, More fireppower, less psychic attack + defense. Less fat but also more Gung-ho. Same story with flyers except I won't have JOTWW and additional coversaves. This list hits hard and fast but LIST A has better late game abilities.

I don't know the local meta so this list must either be completely TAC or be strong enough in all other departments to be able to ignore one department (Flyers and Skimmers) and finnish of the rest to win the game.

Thanks in advance for any C&C.

hmmm i think i prefer the first list and i would say drop the razor and put in a vanilla rune priest for the extra casts of lightning and storm caller to save those fangs. but apart from that i actually like both lists would be funny to put i dread in a pod in just for the entertainment as your enemies face suddenly drop bu all in all you should be ok with either list IMO your first lsit is stonger let us know how it goes and if it works

OK, first day of league done. In the end I took LIST A but changed it slightly. I removed the deathwind upgrades and the Razorback squad and added a 3rd Long Fang squad with a pod and gave another Long Fang squad a pod.

In the end I had 7 pods so that ensured my whole army will be on the table turn 1. Obviously the Long Fangs wouldn't deepstrike. I forgot my codex at home which would've been fine since I had my list on my phone BUT I forgot what Njal's storm powers were so they weren't used in any of the games.

We had 3 games.

First game I tabled a Necron player. He didn't have a full army though. I think he had about 1400 points. He gave up at the start of the 4th round when I was finally able to shoot his doomscythe down.
Second game I tabled a Vanilla marine player. He had bikes, scouts, 2 Land Raiders and Assault Termies
Last game I lost 8 - 9 against an IG player with Dark Angels allies. He had 2 Leman Russ Battle tanks, a Bassilisk, 4 Vet squads in transports, Vendetta, Rhino with Tac marines, Libby with Terminators He was good and understood my list. He castled up in a corner and it was difficult to drop in between his forces. He maintained a very good gunline. I had bad luck shooting at his battle tanks so I might have been able to pull a draw had things gone different.

glad to hear the day went well and thats a shame to forget your codex you could have turned it if you had njals powers and would have possibly killed a lot more in a shorter period of time. I hope the rest of the league goes well for you

I like your modified List A the best, good choice there. Glad to hear you did well.

Your third game was a tough matchup, and it sounds like it was also against a good player. Losses happen

I feel like you should take 2 Grey Hunter squads with Melta and 2 squads with Plasma. This will give you more options to deal with different kinds of threats.

Something that I've toyed with is Long Fangs with Multi-Meltas in a Drop Pod, as the Pod gives them great positioning at the expense of only snap firing first turn. Having 5 Multi-Meltas in the middle of the board can really change how your opponent plays. I normally attach a Wolf Guard with Terminator Armor and a Chainfist for good measure.

Gorgosaurusrex, I actually did exchange 2 meltaguns for plasmaguns, just forgot to say that. Great minds think alike!

The Multi-Melta squad is definitely something I would like to try out, then I would add Logan and a Runepriest instead of Njal to give them Relentless and Prescience so they don't need to snapfire. Against the IG player it would have been very handy as my meltas were just out of melta range and I couldn't penetrate the battletanks before he shot them up.

Logan would be a great addition to the Long Fang squad. I've even had Arjac in that unit before along with Logan. Who says you can't make a death star out of devastators? I wouldn't charge that!
