While the pewter in question isn't a model, does anyone have experience working with it much? Recently I had a pewter and glass wine glass fall and the pewter wing on it was badly bent. Attempting to bend it back it felt like it was going to break so I stopped. If it didn't mean so much to me I'd just replace it, but it was the glass I used at my wedding so... :/ so does anyone have any hints or tips on how to get it back into shape without damaging it further? a picture of the original is here: http://www.graemeanthonypewter.com.au/uploads/image/DragonWine.jpg One wing is bent almost to the middle of where the glass should be.

I've not worked with pewter in this way before. The one thing I can think of is perhaps try heating it up. I'd try a heat gun first, or maybe a soldering gun.

Another suggestion: And perhaps the smarter one, is to contact the company and see what they recommend. Perhaps they'll offer to repair it for you.

This is my Rulebook. There are many Like it, but this one is mine. Without me, my rulebook is useless. Without my rulebook, I am useless.

If it means that much to you. I wouldn't screw around with it. Find the best jewellery/metalsmith store in town and ask them about it. They'll know someone who can fix it, or will know someone who knows someone.

We bought it 10 years ago, I doubt they'll fix it Thanks for the tips. But I'll see what they say about the fix.

Same with a heat gun.

Just to emphasise this. The sublimation temperature and melting temperatures are so close that you typically won't get much in the way of warning before that "solid" piece slumps into a molten puddle.

With that goblet, you are also likely to break the glass vessel when attempting to reshape the pewter parts (whist the metal does retain some ductility, the glass used doesn't.).

My advice: See the people who made it (if possible) to see about rectifying it/replacing it (not necessarily a free replacement. Sometimes you have to eat the expense to replace something you like) or live with it. You'll probably fail and stuff it completely if you try to force it (and probably do a serious injury to yourself. I've broken a goblet like that and the glass is very sharp when broken.

glass is already broken. We were planning on getting it re-blown. My wife has started looking into either getting it fixed, or getting him to reuse the goblet to forge another one. That way it's the same goblet just... fixed And the things you guys are telling me right now is exactly why I came here to ask. Thanks again. We're coming up on our 10 year anniversary in January and really wished it could have made it.
