I recently purchased a copy of the Flames of War V2 Rules from a local toy fair (£2.50) and from what i've read so far i'd really like to get into the game.
Now as the title says I'm wondering if an army can be built on a budget. I'd be looking at Late War British, Germans or Soviets (Still undecided on that part) If anyone could give me any advice i would be very grateful.

Very easy, I priced up a Heavy Panzer list and it came to around £50 and thats 1950 pts worth
2x King Tigers £26
1x Plastic Soldier Company Box of Tiger 1E's £18
Support Platoon of Panzergrenadiers you can use the open fire dudes and can get these from ebay, or battle front ones arent too much money.
This gives you the following list
HQ
1x Konigstiger
Combat Platoons
3x Tiger 1 E
2x Tiger 1 E
1x Konigstiger
Support Platoons
Panzergrenadier Platoon x3 Squads.
No idea how the list would play as I havent got that far, but it sure will look awesome lol

That's all you really need, especially as they also sell the Zvezda plastics. I made a early war Panzer Kompanie for about £50-60 and that has 20 tanks, 2 armoured cars and an infantry platoon using Zvezda Pz II and Pz IIIs.

Do not underestimate the Squats. They survived for millenia cut off from the Imperium and assailed on all sides. Their determination and resilience is an example to us all.

I'd consider making a German army.
Depends on your price vs competitiveness curve.
I'd start with open fire
You get the v3 rule book and for Germans enough for two infantry platoons and 3 StuG's. And can keep the Brit tanks or eBay them for more Germans.
I'd personally consider using Plastic soldier company for half tracks/panthers/panzer 4's

You can buy two open fire boxes for the Germans and have a really solid start to a variety of German infantry lists. From there you'd just need some support blisters like Nebelwerfers, 81mm mortars, and maybe some HMG blisters and you would be set, for a very cheap cost.
With two Open Fire boxes you'd also have a solid start to a british armored company and some American paratroopers, but I would probably trade those to a friend. If you both buy a box you'll both get the small rulebook, tokens, and can trade the army that you don't use to get the one you want.

Its just as shame that they don't stock Battlefront stuff as well or I would be putting an order in tonight (I need some Stuart IIIIs).

Play a British or German armoured list and use as many Plastic Soldier Company kits as you can. Soviets can still be pricey even with PSC kits because you need so many tanks in soviet armies. I built a late war British Irish guards armoured squadron for under $100 using 3 boxes of PSC Sherman Firefly tanks which can be used to make fireflies or sherman Vs.

Guess what my next army will be....
The T35 is my favourite tank (even if it was utterly hopeless).

To ORIGINAL POSTER, This topic comes up alot..... Please read the sticky at the top of the board that says...
NEW TO FLAMES OF WAR? Please read....
There is alot of stuff in there about this....
Guys can we stop these threads earlier by saying "Read top post on Thread". The who whole point of that document is to stop posts like this, which we get 10's of a month, which are spamming our only FOW Board.
If you think the article needs updating, or adding to, then do so.
