in the 4th edition DA codex it states 'the Tower remains undisturbed and eerily silent protected by the same force shields that shielded it from the destruction of Caliban'. In in an argument over whether using an Exterminatus on the Rock destroy it.. What do you guys think?

Caliban was cracked by Planet wide Orbital bombardment and broken apart by Warp version of a Black Hole.
So I would imagine the Rock would survive. But before that happens odds are there is going to be one hell of a Deathwing Assault in that Exterminatus ship before it fires.

The Rock can level fleets single handedly so it would have to be one hell of an exterminatus.

Sounds like it can pretty much withstand anything - Although there are horrifically powerful forces out there - Blackstone fotresses, Necron devices to Nova suns.
Biggest threat I would have thought was a bad warp jump?

I think the exterminates is more akin to destroying a planet through the cocktail of chemicals and such that turns organic material into explosive gasses and so on and so forth.
that would mean that the rock's fields would of course, prevent the viruses from getting in and would only need to protect from the explosive forces of the atmosphere exploding. As it doesn't have a natural atmosphere (if I remember correctly), an exterminates would not be as effective. They would need to find a way to get it "inside".
So I think it would be safe unless it was an inside job. That being said...I wonder how large a stasis bomb would be needed to encapsulate the rock in it's effects? Would it work or would it only "stasis" around it? Would teleporters work "through" it if only around it worked? Would vox or other communication devices work "through" it to allow teleporters to know where to go (its dangerous even with exact coordinates) if they did?

For an Exterminatus they could set the atmosphere on fire, melta torpedo it or do a thousand other things. If planets can be destroyed in such a way then so could an asteroid, regardless of how well shielded it was.

It doesn't have an atmosphere outside of the shielding if I remember correctly so they would need to crack that first. Of course, I think cracking the shields would just allow the atmosphere to escape.
I agree that I think if you just hammered it long enough, the shields would crack.
We all know what the Dark Angels would do to prevent this and what the rest of the Imperium would do to prevent it if they could get help there in time. I curious as to what the WATCHERS would do and what they would be capable of doing to prevent it. Makes ya wonder.

The rock has the power to backhand fleets out of existence, good luck trying to get into exterminatus positions.
