How would that work? Can the inquisitor still buff the marine and does it still buff the squad he is attached to?

For instance Farsight and O'vesa attached to a squad of grav centurions

If they are battle brothers and he is attached to them, yes. So a div inq with a conversion beamer can attach to a dev squad and if they rolled a 4 on the powers chart and passed the psychic test, ignore cover with the beamer and 4 las cannons.

Meant a non imperial battle brother like Tau

Only problem is you cannot target non-friendly units. With Tau in the squad it prevents you from targetting the unit with your psychic powers. You can't decide to only affect the BB part of the unit.

It is new ground however but pretty confident you will not be able to do this.

On top of that Tau are desperate allies with inquisition so your risking the "one eye open" rule for both units.

See that's the question, how is the unit defined considering both are there?

Has this been answered somewhere? Some people are considering/using this deathstar and I'm curious if it actually works or not.
