I'll be playing in a killteam small tournament next week and was hoping to get some advice as I haven't played this type of game before. I would like to field crisis suits for a fluffy kill team. Here is what I am thinking of right now:

XV8 Crisis Team (196 pts)

Crisis Shas’vre (72 pts) - The leader will have RIF to surprise anyone that charges him and PR with ignore cover to take care of 3+ armour. Hoping that he gets a bunch of kills and I can give him FNP USR later.
2x Plasma rifle
Repulsor impact field
Ignore cover (USR)

Crisis Shas’ui (57 pts) - Burst cannon with rending to be a powerful mid range threat and shoot at multiple targets.
2x Burst cannon
Stimulant Injector
Rending (USR)

Crisis Shas’ui (67 pts) - Longer range support, anti vehicle and instant death vs T3 models.
2x Missile Pod
Stimulant Injector
Preferred enemy (USR)

With three models, I see this list risking a lot to losing a few crisis suits and also putting out enough shots against hordey targets. As such, I think I really should include an Airbursting Fragmentation Projector, but the question is, which unit? Here is a possible list with two more models to boot!:

XV8 Crisis Team (200 pts)

Crisis Shas’vre (72 pts) - The leader will have RIF to surprise anyone that charges him and PR with ignore cover to take care of 3+ armour. Hoping that he gets a bunch of kills and I can give him FNP USR later.
2x Plasma rifle
Repulsor impact field
Ignore cover (USR)

Crisis Shas’ui (52 pts) - Rending BC and cover ignoring blast weapon, VRT in case I get into CC with this short range unit.
1x Burst cannon
1x Airbursting fragmentation projector
Vectired retro-thrusters
Rending (USR)

Crisis Shas’ui (52 pts) - CIB to improve the output of shots, sacrifice some range but the MP is still 36"
1x Missile Pod
1x Cyclic ion blaster
Preferred enemy (USR)

2x Gun drone (24 pts) - can lose 3 models before leadership checks start

I would appreciate any comments you have, especially about where to outfit the AFP and CIB and their synergy with the USR's.

Hi, I play a lot of Kill Team and I'm impressed at how you're thinking of using Drones to buff up your numbers.

I'm admiring your roster and I got this mental checklist, 3 very simples things in Kill Team that throw people off-guard:

Lone Gunmen - some Heavy Weapon guys or Rangers hidden away. You can deal with that, no problem for you.

Vehicles - a Transport with Fire Points can steam roll unprepared Kill Teams, but you're prepared. That's fine.

Hordes - you can easily fit a dozen Space Marines or 30 Boyz in 200 pts. You have 3 guys and 2 Drones.

So IMHO, I think you have to hedge your bet and bring some anti-Horde. The easy solution: probably Fire Warriors.

---

I'm going to suggest start with a squad of 11 or 12 Fire Warriors.

Then with the remaining points, spend it on the Crisis Suits, to maintain anti-sniper & anti-tank.

At the very least, take a MSU of 6 Fire Warriors instead of Drones. Fire Warriors are more useful.

If you want to take the Shas'vre, give him FNP right from the start and long-ranged weapons.

---

One interesting combination for USR is a Crisis Suit with 2 Flamers, Specialist: Fleshbane.

Because a USR is on the model, not the weapon...your Crisis Suits benefit twice as much.

Combined with the Jump Pack, this guy can be anti-Rangers/Lootas/etc. and anti-Horde.

---

Just some quick ideas. Bottom line - I really suggest taking Fire Warriors, THEN Crisis Suits. Basically, Boyz Before Toyz, even in Kill Team.

I agree completely with kommisar, you need more models on the table fella. Other than that seems fairly solid to me, you have almost all the bases covered.

Tadcaster

Don't know if it would work with your battle style but I like to take a
piranha
Fusion blaster
Seeker missle x 2
And give shroud special rule
You have twin gun drones which can disembark melta for anti tank and seekers all for 66 points and a 3+ cover save solong as you keep moving

I think the seekers are a waste as your paying 16 points and with ballistic skill 3 only one will hit on average so it's a straight waste of 8pts. Plus they have to fire at the same target as the rest of the weapons so with an ap2 fusion gun I don't see why you need them

Automatically Appended Next Post:
You'd be better off giving it disruption pods for 16pts and having a 2+ cover save

I would also consider kroot. Each model is a unit. Right now you dont have the models needed to force the opponent to split his fire. More bodies will go a long way.

Thanks to everyone for the replies (especially Kommissar WaaaghrickMade)!

I'm liking the idea of Kroot (for once!). Do people usually bring a lot of ignore cover, if not then maybe a 6-8 kroot spread throughout the terrain and cover would cause some split firing. EDIT: minimum for Kroot is 10, so maybe FW is better off. 60 vs 54 pts. Thoughts?

Sadly I don't have a Piranha for now, but it's definitely something I'm looking into as time goes on.

Kroot! Now we're cooking with gas. That's a cool idea.

Kroot are pretty cool. I reckon you already noticed the rules on this, that Infiltrate is not used in Kill Team. But Move Through Cover is great, because there's a lot of cover to use, and usually the mission objective they put some cover around, and it usually ends up a mad rush to the objective and killing whoever's there. Maneuverability and the ability to clear out an objective are winning qualities.

Kroot Hounds also look absolutely awesome, at least on paper. Beasts are great and they're cheap. In fact, if I take Kroot, a large part of the reason is to try to get about 10 of these guys, if not the max.

But...you mentioned Ignore Cover. Yeah, Ignore Cover is a real popular choice for a Specialist, in that case it's just 1 model, who can be sniped or you can try to sneak out of his Line Of Sight. I usually make something like a Heavy Bolter Marine a Specialist: Ignore Cover.

The other popular way to get Ignore Cover is Sternguard, who are quite popular among Space Marine players if they play Kill Team. Sternguard's rock there because they have that Special Issue Ammo for almost every situation, and one of them is Ignore Cover. Sternguard also have another special round that shoots up to 30 feet, S4, AP4, but they have to choose one or the other.

Tough call. I don't know, Fire Warrior or Kroot? The above is just my thoughts for now, being the guy you would play against.
