One of my first finished models since the new codex dropped here is one of my Crusaders (first of his type painted) done up and ready for play.

C&C Welcome as always:

Cool. I wasn't sold on the pose from the WIP, but it really does work seeing it finished. Great work.

I really like it! No visible flaws at all, A+.

Thanks guys, he was probably the most simply posed of the crusaders and thus the easiest to paint up as a test so I can see how the pose might seem a little off. I'm quite happy with how the brass etch turned out given that it was my first time using it.

Interesting, there's a strange contradiction between this modern-looking solder in a "tactical" stance, holding a decorated sword and shield, that makes me want to know more about this guy and his backstory. By the way, that's an interesting shield, is it scratch-built?

Yeah I can see how the modern/archaic vibe could be contradictory. However I like to imagine that the crusaders have to take instruction from their Inquisitors as to their gears functonality (dropping from valks etc). Thus merging function with sacred gear.

The shield is a FW Empire Manaans blades shield with the emblem replaced with brass etch

Obviously it's something that's a pretty big part of what gives 40K it's flavour, so your Crusader works perfectly in context, I just meant that I like how you've brought that contradiction to the surface.

Thanks guys

The bits are:

FW Elysian Body/Leg/Arms
FW Manaans Blades Shields (emblem shaved off)
FW Inquisitor Brass Etch (on shields)
FW Power Weapon set (mKIVI believe)
And some hands liberated from various IG kits to hold the weapons and shields.
