After teaching and well learning 40k, a thought came to me. What do you think are the most common/important rules for the game? I was thinking of making a Rules Reference sheet where it would have common and the need to know rules for quick glance looking like this.

Reserve's - PG 124-125

I see alot of people looking up rules and well most the time is trying to find where the rules are and they key BOLD text they are looking for.
I got some of the basic's like shooting started and well, the rules is a rather large section!

Unfortunately, a proper cheat sheet would either have writing and charts so small you couldn't effectively use it or it would be more akin to a cheat pamphlet.
I would suggest using photoshop or some such where you can do each thing up separately and then put them together as separate images onto a master sheet. Might make getting more onto each sheet easier.
Good luck.

in order to get a cheat sheet you can handle you sort of need to make it for your army specifically.

I'd suggest playing a game and then writing down notes about what you think of that you need during the game.

It takes a lot of work, but if you run static army choices, you can make something like this. I use it to keep track of all my Gifts of Mutation and Psychic powers as well during game, putting a check mark next to the units that I'm using.

What software did you use for the cards?

Also I am thinking of making a BRB for my cheat sheet mainly. I started it and well don't know what all to include.

I used Word to nest tables within tables within tables. I've got the sizes down so that if I want, I can cut them out like cards. I've tried Excel and OpenOffice, but nothing worked like Word did to create just what I wanted. It takes a little know-how of how Word works to get the tables right.

I may ninja your idea!

I have a bad ass 6th edition reference .pdf, literally listing quick breakdowns of what order to do everything in, with charts and all.

Unfortunately it's 20mb, and the DD attachment limit is 10mb. I can e-mail it to you, if you'd like. It's literally the entire game for you in like a few pages without all the confusing CRAP in the rulebook.

There is a program called Magic Set Editor which can make CCG-style cards. There was a thread a bit ago where some 40k templates and ideas were discussed. I used it to make some chapter tactics cards, and printed the warlord cards from that thread:

MSE is free and easy to use. I'd recommend it over Word for anyone who doesn't feel like tweaking margins and borders to fit.

For cheat sheets, it's a good idea to make note of what rules you find yourself looking up constantly - both for your own questions as well as questions your opponent has. Make cheat sheets around those to start with.

For example - I made a cheat sheet about the 6th edition rules for starting a game; from mission selection to stealing the initiative.

How is terrain placed?
Who places objectives and when?
When is night fighting determined?
When are Warlord traits determined?

These are all instances of questions that came up so I spent an hour combing the rules and making a simple list for it. I'm in the process of making one as well for specific sections of the book too (i.e. transports, buildings, etc.). Always have page numbers with what you make though so you can pull open the book and point when you need to.
