Trying to figure out a way I deal with a nasty psychic buffed bike star thing. Reckon this could give it a go?

3 x Harbringer of Despair (staff of despair)
2 x Harbringer of Storm (voltaic staff, 1 x lightning field)
9 x Deathmarks (Night Scythe)

5 x Warriors (Night Scythe)
5 x Immortals
6 x wraiths (4 with coils)
2 annihilation barges
Deathmarks, Crypteks, Overlord in scythe drop right by the star unit and mark it. 30 shots (average 20 hits) and three ap2 templates all wounding on 2+
While that's all going on, three scoring units stay cosy in their scythes trying to deal with other units. Wee immortal blob stays in reserve and creeps in the backdoor towards a home field objective.
What can it kill?

you're a little vague about what specifically you're trying to take on. What specifically is the race, unit(s), load out, and psychic powers used on the deathstar your trying to come up with a strategy against?

Dark Angels bikes with Sammael, a lvl2 Librarian, the super shooty banner thing. Its maybe not really a deathstar I suppose, its just very hard to kill and the force multiplication is a nightmare. I want to take it out to deal with the other bikes.
Also I just like the idea of a high powered kill list as so many armies now seem to have on super killy / vital but tough unit. So I'm trying to figure a way of dealing with that.

Where are the 3 ap2 flame templates coming from? If your on about the leadership flamer that the cryptek has access to then you can only take 1 of each piece of equipment per Royal court, so to have 3 crypteks with that flamer you would have to have 3 Royal courts, ie double force org and 3 overlords....

This is incorrect, each cryptek can have whatever type of staff for their flavor, however, you can't have more than one of their flavor's special equipment, this is in the necron FAQ.
However you are correct that you can't have more than 1 special character from a royal court in a unit. You can only add one model from each royal court. If you have two royal courts, you could put a lord or cryptek from each.
What really works for deathstars are Doomday Arks and Monoliths. Most deathstars are going to have 2+-3+ saves anyway. Having a high strength/low AP template you can drop on them works really well. The problem with the deathmarks and crypteks is that you get one shot and then they will get crushed by said deathstar on your opponent's turn. At least with a monolith and DD Ark, they are great against everything and will last longer.

So only one cryptek per court can join a unit? But Crypteks from multiple courts can join the same unit? And overlords can join any unit they like due to being independent characters, correct? Automatically Appended Next Post: So....

Correct. However you now have 3 HQ and only 3 troops. You need 4 troops for double force org. Id get rid of the ark and use the points.

Remember that a scythe has a capacity of 10 also. Id drop some warriors from the 12man squad. Drop the immortals down to 5 warriors. Now you have plenty of points to play with and can get some whip coils.
I like stormteks but the best way I find to run them is 2 or 3 with a despairtek with veil. Guaranteed (ish) turn1 tank kill then rather than waiting for reserves. If you only run 1 despairtek with the deathmarks you can drop the second lord for even more points. Only give a lord an orb if hes running with a big squad or it won't make its points back.

Thanks for the advice. What I'd love to do is get the D Lord back in. Pretty sure that the scythe has a capacity of 15. And a scythe is a much better way of putting a unit within 12" of a unit than a veiltek with the vagueries of scatter, IMHO. Going to move things about a bit more... sigh

Okay. I think I've nailed it. The overlord takes a gauntlet of fire, the despair tek leads the death marks. So two templates wounding on 2+ (one if which is ap1). And I can keep my D Lord (who will be my warlord).
Start the game with the DLord/wraith unit, 2 annihilation barges and the doomsday arc on the table which gives my opponent something to think about in terms of target priority.
Then the drop troops arrive and the deathmarks mark the command squad / hq unit and go in to kill. Everything else concentrates on clearing objectives ready to drop off troops.

Any deathstar that relies on armor saves or cover saves will be shredded by that unit, however, ones that get invuln saves...like the screamer star, won't care....your best bet in that case is to just tarpit the snot outta them with scarabs since they can't ID them.

Is it 15? I must have got my facts mixed up. I like your most recent list. Its the best one yet! You could drop the warriors down to 5 and change the immortals into 5 deathmarks, get another despairtek with the points and now you can tag 2 units and have 2 ap2 wounding on 2+ templates! It did okay. I lost due to lack of focus on my part and clever use of supporting fire and area play by my opponent, but if I had rolled 9 or less on 2d6 on the last roll of the game (morale check for contesting warriors) it would have been a draw or if it had gone to another round I suspect I would have won.
I feel that it could be better though. The kill team are good, but can't score and the lack of ap2 on the second flamer reduces it's effectiveness.
The D Lord often doesn't make it into combat, so I'm thinking:
Trazyn the Infinite (Royal Court)
Despair Tek
Storm Tek
Overlord (Res Orb,Royal Court)
Despair Tek
5 x Deathmarks in Night Scythe (All HQ except storm here)
14 x Warriors Night Scythe (and storm tek)

I think this is focused and better. The Storm Tek and the 14 blob average a land raider kill per turn if necessary, the Deathmarj unit is scoring with Trazyn and he has 4 potential "hosts" to return to (which is my one hesitation with the Storm Tek - it would be annoying to have him pop back up in a unit that is already scoring). The res orb also makes that hit squad endurable. Quite hard to put then down.
