I may be getting a one of the two meduim sized FW Space Marine gunships in the future.

My question is which do you think is best. They both seem to have their pros and cons. The Fire Raptor will cost less points and can potentially fire at four different units because of it's various special rules. However aside from wreaking havoc on infantry it's uses may be limited and it has no transport. I find that I like the quad bolters alot because the look new. But I also think the twinliked autocannons are likely to be a better choice but unremarkable as they appear on many other normal codex units (my Venerable Dreadnought for example).

The Storm Eagle is very powerful and can wreak havoc on enemy flyers as well as infantry. However it has a much higher points cost, I estimate around 325 once I'm done adding weapons etc. Though I feel I can ultimately get more out of it. I do know the weapons I want for it, two twinlinked lascannons and cyclone launcher. I am unsure of how to best put it's transport capacity to use. 20 models is alot however as only one unit can be transported at a time this may be too much. I am not sure how to best use this much transport, ideas?

I think I may be leaning towards the Storm Eagle over the Fire Raptor but I am still very undecided though.

Also any ideas on which is the best model wise are important to me, I know they are both going to be equally a pain to assemble due to warping of the resin so nightmare stories of putting together a Storm Eagle will certainly apply too the Fire Raptor. The Fire Raptor seems to look better painted but worse unpainted. The Storm Eagle is the opposite, it's better unpainted and worse painted which leads me to think I can do a better job on it because I am a good painter.

I like the look of the Storm Eagle better than the Fire Raptor, so that got my vote. Which is better? No idea..

However, all acounts I've read have indicated that both of these models are challenging to build. There are significant issues with getting the resin and plastic pieces to match up correctly, and the large flat pieces are warped along multiple axes requiring some creative solutions to get everything to lay flat.

Buy a Storm Eagle and try to put it together. You'll never buy another. So, I guess the Fire Raptor wins by default?

And as far as transport goes for the storm eagle I guess the only thing filling it up would be terminators

FIRE RAPTOR

honsetly i love that gunship.

Fire Raptor is lovely. The independent turrets are simply amazing.

I think they are both good models, but for my force I would go with the Storm Eagle. Why? Because I have enough anti-troop weapons. the Fire Raptor is built to do heavy damage to troops and light armor. It's main S6 AP3 gun, and TL Autocannons (or Reaper Batteries) with S7 AP 4. The missiles help a little. But compare that to the practically hunter style fo the Storm Eagle's loadout. TL Multi-melta, 2 TL Lascannons. And for troops it has the 2 large blast S5 AP4 missile launcher. Plus it can drop off a huge squad where you need it.

It will, however cost you near 300 points instead of 240.
