So with the Inquisition supplement/codex around the corner and already having a Coteaz henchmen army, I am considering adding the (only) new toy, the Valkyrie.

Considering it will be in a list with a stormraven and droppods (with melta) how would you suggest running it?

- Laser/Bolters with a min 3 man squad of henchmen for a cheap late game objective grabber and anti infantry?
- Toss in some flamer henchmen (low BS dosent hurt tempaltes) etc.

Or should I just avoid and get another stormraven.

Stormravens are double the cost for equivalent armor and abilities you won't use. At 130 points with a Multi-Laser and two multiple missile pods, you will wreck ork and tyranid hordes just fine.

The late game obj. grabber move could work. The Stormraven has access to better weapons, but the Valkyrie is a whole heck of a lot cheaper. I would go with the Valkyrie.

You also have the option of adding a pair of heavy bolters with psybolt ammo for half the cost of the missile pods upgrade.

So the key options are

Do I want 9 Str 6 shots at BS3 (3 hits avg?)

or

Do I want two large blast templates

When you say "3 hits avg", I assume you're talking about the heavy bolters alone.

The multiple rocket pods will usually get about 6-8 hits, but those hits will be S4 AP6 instead of S6 AP4. And as I mentioned earlier, you pay twice as much for that upgrade.

Bah your right, mind before coffee fails math. 4-5 hits avg if including all the guns.

And the guns have the added benefit of hunting down other fliers.

Don't think so.

Valkyries do not have access to vehicle equipment list.

I think "I want it all" might be the right answer. 140-145 pts isn`t too bad for that amount of firepower and great protection and mobility for a super cheap scoring unit.

Ahh, so they don't. My mistake, sorry!

I'd still just stick with the heavy bolters before switching to rocket pods. They're much more cost effective.

Cost effectiveness is the name of the game for my armies... I may opt for the HB/ML... but most likely magnets for everything.

Which is better against space marine armies? Valkarie or stormraven. I did not see either have skyfire. I want a reason to take inquisition outside if gk but I am just not seeing a reason outside of dedicated transports.

145 For 2 large S4 pie plates, 6 shots at S6 AP4, and 3 snap fires at S6 ap-. It's a terror against lightly armored armies and has enough volume of wounds to be worth while against marines.

I would put a plasma gun unit inside with some ablative wounds holding bolt guns. Grav chute insert to get side/rear shots on vehicles.

Flamers are a no go. They have the exact same cost as plasma guns.

Chaos isn’t a pit. Chaos is a ladder. Many who try to climb it fail, and never get to try again. The fall breaks them. And some are given a chance to climb, but refuse. They cling to the realm, or love, or the gods…illusions. Only the ladder is real. The climb is all there is, but they’ll never know this. Not until it’s too late.

Am I the only one who simply thinks "don't"?

145pts is a lot to pay for a rather mediocre flier. If it was a vendetta, then I'd be all ears, but MRP Valks are really pretty average.
I use one in my guard list, but it's only been out of laziness when it comes to buying more lascannon bits. It never makes its points back, and is basically just a low priority target that I can just drop into hover mode and let some troops walk out of on turn 5.

I dunno...I'm rambling. I like it, but I don't think it's a game changer. It only really works for me because there are 2 Vendettas drawing all the fire away from it.

Star Trek taught me so much. Like, how you should accept people, whether they be black, white, Klingon or even female...

The heavy bolters are side mounted, they have very limited arc of fire(the wings get in the way) without MFA.

The MRP are great and very cost effective15 points per large blast bolter is wonderful when you get 2 of them.

This is my Rulebook. There are many Like it, but this one is mine. Without me, my rulebook is useless. Without my rulebook, I am useless.

I personally love stormravens. A flyer with a MM, PotMS, and (for GK) psybolt AC and Hurricane Bolters is not something to ignore.

Having said that I use Valks fairly often in my Elysian drop troops. It can be pretty good but you have to use every aspect of it and you need to recognize it is a troops harassment unit.

You should always take the bolters and rocket pods. The missiles are terrible and the bolters are a steal at 10 pts.

For the unit inside I have been playing around with 3x flamer/carapace acolytes, same+Jokearo, and Inquisitor w/ prescience+3x plasma/carapace acolytes+crusader or two. If I have other DS units I will add a mystic to the henchmen as it give a very mobile no scatter DS area.

The flamers are worth it as they are a very cheap scoring unit that can remove many other scoring units from objectives. They stay in the valk until end game and if you loose them you loose little pts. The plasma need something to help with the low BS as otherwise you are almost as likely to kill yourself as the opponent. With a jokearo the unit becomes more dangerous but it is not always worth it as the jokearo is expensive. It becomes more worthwhile if you bring an incinerator or psycannon inquisitor in the unit.

BTW this is really a list dependent question as if you lack GEQ killers the valk is better but if you lack light vehicle and AA killers the stormraven is better. In a blind statement I would say stormtalon.

For what its worth, the damage-per-point against GEQ is pretty good for the Valk, but its damage-per-point vs MEQ is pretty bad.

Throwing a 55 point inquisitor in it to give prescience is roughly a wash. The Damage goes up, but so does the cost. Its hard to calculate exactly how much it goes up as that's really dependent on how many models your hitting with the rockets on average.

In my marine-flyer list I am considering dropping a storm talon for a Valkyrie -- but that is because I already have a lot of firepower for MEQ, and could use more GEQ. But I am still not sold on it.
