i didn't start Tau like I said... sorry I lied to you guys. I want to know if this is a decent collection of Eldar:
2 units Howling Banshee's
Farseer with spear (lance???)
Wave Serpent
wraithguard x5
Eldard Uthran (i must paint him)
4x warlocks or farseers (he's not sure)
8 dire avengers
8 guardians
5 rangers
16 Striking Scorpions
WraithLord
I know very little about 40k, and I'm looking to get a decent start in the game. I only plan on playing casually, but I know the game can skew towards certain builds with every new edition. I don't want to buy someone's scrap heap. I think I'll still get Uthran just to paint him if the trade falls through.

no the banshees. they suck.
Use eldrad as just another farseer. hes to expensive in new dex.
wave serpents needs scatter lasers if you dont have them.
the minimum amount of guardians in a squad is 10. dont know hat happened there...
rangers are good for cheap scoring objectives
scorps are ok at best.
wraith lord is pretty good.
i think with these models you can have a decent army. not great, you need warp spiders, more wave serpents, and/or war walkers for that.
if theres a way to get more serpents get them, theyll make any list competitive if you have enough.

Banshees: I have 30 of them, that's right, 30. I've never pulled them out for a game yet. Their abilities and power weapon got nerfed. Their razor-sharp power sword is nothing more than a floppy frakking dildo now. I guess that gives them something to do while they sit in the box.
lolololololol thanks! and yeah, he only has 8, so i have to do some ebaying.

Yeah Banshees are awful. If you are savvy with a hobby knife and have some bits then you could convert them into Harlequins or something.
As Guardians come on sprues of 4 models they were sold in boxes of 16 before they had the plastic weapon platform sprue with 2 additional guardians. Storm Guardians were sold in boxes of 8. This was back when the squad minimum was 5 models (3rd ed). Guardians REALLY need a new kit, lol.
That's a decent starting army, but it could definitely use more Wave Serpents. That would be my first purchase.

Okay, It depends...
I personally after much play and experience have come up with a CONCEIVABLE way Banshees MIGHT be able to be effective and actually outperform other CC eldar units in the right conditions.
The only things I would say are useful from the trade are:
Farseer and Eldrad
Wave Serpent
Guardians and Dire Avengers (get both so you get a feel for which of these you like better. I am a guardian guy and only run guardians, but some people prefer DA's. I get why they would, and its sound reasoning, just not my playstyle)
Things I would maybe get, depending on what you are going for and your funds. If you have enough to buy things and try them out, and are okay with them not working then get all of these because they are decent just not optimal:
Rangers
Wraithguard
WraithLord
Warlocks
If you REALLY REALLY want a CC unit, get the Scorpions too. You will be disappointed though. I have run them, and was very very not impressed.
Do Not get Banshees, until you have 100+ Games under your belt. They are an advanced unit that are very limited in what they can accomplish and utilizing them is a challenge, although it can be done. Requires a depth of knowledge and experience you do not have.

Banshees would be great if they could take Power Mauls. Limiting them to Power Swords really added salt to the wound that is their stats.
Scorpions have uses, but Eldar are MUCH better at shooting thanks to their new Codex and 6th edition rules. The only CC unit I ever run is a Bike Seer Council, unless I am playing a casual game.
