Tactic is simple. Devilfish sprint to objective and unload troops then run interference and and support. Ethereal stays in a fish and provides buffs from there. Drones on fish and fish intercept assaults and block shots as needed.

Crisis team is for supporting the forward teams providing missiles from farther back along with the broadsides

the mark'o and drone team will provide MLs for the forward unit

the small Fire Warrior team will hang back with the ADL and gaurd home objectives

Piranhas are for threatening the flank and more support if needed.

Oh god the pointsinking!.

If your doing this with models on hand. id get rid of all the extra doodads on all the Dfish. keep SS and or DP though as that can be useful in certain terrain set ups.

Otherwise. id rather see Pathfinders in a DF with the homing bacon. more Piranhas with DP + fusions. (2 units of 3 i think would be good), and ADL with Com relay, to bring in a few units of specialized crisis suits on turn 2. drop em in place with the pathfinder fish.

Turn one you drive out target properly with the piranhas, turbo your fishs to extra jink.
Turn two drop in move everyone out except leave the ethereal inside for addition hull aura power boost, and shoot up all the things.

I agree about dropping the extra stuff from the fishes. The dischargers and point defense are really situational. Great if you play assault based deathstars, but really thats it. Do take smart missiles if you want to use the devilfish for combat.

Drop bonding and probably EMP grenades from the fire warriors. Do bond the crisis and broadside teams, consider a 'vre for both. You can't afford to have these units fail to rally and run off the board, and it is very affordable. Also consider a 'vre for the pathfinders. Units on foot need the Ld boost.

Give your commander iridium armor to tank saves for the drones. A neuroweb jammer and onager gauntlet are also great cheap buys.

Second fusions on the Piranhas.

The most important rule of 40K-Page XVII of the 6th edition rulebook, the figure at the top right of the page. "Shake hands with your opponent and thank them for a good battle and fun experience." Then go out for a beer.

I think if you were going to do EMP grenades on Fire Warriors, it would have to be in pairs. One fish with rifles and grenades, the other with carbines and no grenades.

Both teams disembark, one blows up a transport and the second team carbines them, possibly pins them, and if the target is soft enough, charges them (I mean why not, right?)

On the other hand, that's a 280 pt. gimmick. More like 380 with full squads, and no toys on the fishes. I want this sort of thing to be viable but it's quite simply too expensive, and too many things can go wrong.

Honestly, the only 'aggressive' Tau army that is actually competitive is Enclaves. Crisis Suit and Riptide spam = tons of mobile firepower. Everything can deep strike, though that isn't always or even often advisable.

If Devilfish were 70 points with SMS we could have a conversation; but right now they just scream mediocre.

If you're doing this with a "This is what I have" type mentality then definitely fusion only for the piranhas.

Pathfinders out of fish are snapfiring...bad. They have 36" range, just stick them in cover and pray.

Firewarriors < Kroot. Especially if you want to be aggressive. But even if you are trying to be aggressive, use them as your firebase and be aggressive with Crisis, Riptides, piranhas and Kroot. If you are determined to mech up with Firewarriors, give em Carbines and a shas'ui and be done with it. Cheap Cheap Cheap is the word. Fish should have SMS and that's it.

Look, since you have no buff commander and no riptides, I'm guessing you're not going for competitiveness but rather a more fun version of your friendly static list. That's fine, nothing wrong with that. With the advice of the fellas before me and whatever I was able to add, you should be good to go against similar, friendly lists.

Rule #1 is Look Cool.
