I have considered picking up commission painting, I have done a couple pieces for friends, for like $20 and they supplied the model. But I am not entirely sure where to start picking up clients, what a fair price would be currently, typical turn around time for a commission paint.

Please look at my photo gallery and tell me if I should even consider attempting to commission paint.

thank you

Jobs to the standard of the salamanders in your gallery typically net me around £20 per model, averaging 3 hours per model. Sometime more, sometimes less depending on how I feel about the difficulty of the task.

Stuff like the harlequin patterns I charge significantly more for- depending on how easy it is to batch up.

Certainly you're up to par in terms of standard. You use need to beagle [be able, comedy iPad autocorrect] to suck it up and paint stuff you don't necessarily like to make it a go in terms of business.

I'd seriously consider whether you think the pay is worth your time at all. At £20 per model, and averaging 3 hours per model, is that that 10 bucks an hour really worth it? Unless you are still in school, out of work, or can drastically increase the productivity, it is probably not worth your time.

You make more money on characters etc. Unfortunately, squads are very hard to get decent pay on; there's a lot of competition at that level. Speed painting tricks are invaluable - anything that looks as good for less effort is what you need in your repertoire.

Only people that really make a living and a good one is well established people ie apj golem minis ect as they have proper techniques for getting the most of every minute. If your just in it as for some extra cash and the experience to paint up stuff you prob never will then go for it.

I've mainly done it due to unemployeement an cannot get any work for the stuff I went to tafe for. Don't believe anyone if they tell you it will not effect your hobby experience.

Personally try and take char commissions and small forces you no you will have a good time with. I've done many armies over the last 6months I've really lost interest in painting my own stuff.

So it is really up to you and I wish you all the best.

James

Yeah, I have been in this hobby 13 years and never really played a painted army. I've played a couple times, but I more enjoy painting

As do I but once, you start taking money from people, it's not the same. As there is now stress on something you most likely found relaxing and all the other things that come with a job so to speak. Just letting you no ahead of time : ) best of luck mate!
