Elysian Drop Troops specialise in Air Cavalry, with pretty much every regiment either Air-dropped (ie deep striking) or carried by Valkyries. They have a list in Imperial Armour volume 8 which features drop sentinels, tauros attack buggies and Vulture Gunships. I think there may be a more recent version of the list but I don't own it if there is. If your regular opponents allow Forge World you should definitely go with that, they get to take Valks as dedicated transports which is much better than what vanilla IG can do.
As for combat effectiveness, you have two main problems. First, you aren't deploying much on the field at the start of the game, so you're potentially vulnerable to getting tabled before your flyers can come in without clever use of cover, and second, you ideally want to avoid taking squadrons because they are generally overkill so you'll probably only have 3 Aircraft in your primary detachment. The other 'issue' with vanilla IG drop troops is the fact that none of the heavy support choices are really thematic so unless you want to model a Manticore with a bunch of parachutes (which would admittedly be pretty awesome) you're a little stuck for options as far as heavy firepower goes. If I were attempting this I would go for a Primaris or Lord Commissar HQ, 3 Vet squads in Vendettas, an "Airdropped" Manticore, an Inquisitor and as many Valkyries as you can take (can't remember how the Inquisition allies rules work off the top of my head) and then maybe a big blob squad or something to go to ground in cover and give you better turn 1 board presence.
If you can using the Elysian Drop Troops list is much better though, they can take way more Vendettas/Valkyries more easily and Vultures for Heavy Support.
