Hey,
The new red hunters from forgeworld allow space marines and grey knights to be battle brothers (if an inquisitor is taken :()
They also have some not awful chapter tactics as well.
I'd like to throw it out to the internet what devious combo's that can be had between space marines and grey knights?
(but not just inquisitors, as everyone gets those now)
I have a pre-heresy thousand sons force, made up of counts'as grey knights and counts'as space marines, and I would love them to be battle brothers. Unfortuantely, the biggest problem with the red hunters is they can't take stupid good tigurius!

Well a GK Libby, Techmarine, and Champion would all be fine additions to an assortment of Ultramaine units.
Interceptors would also be fantastic...they could allow you to poition warp quake in the back/mid/front field so you can choose where your opponent deepstrike.

You can't have Ultramarine chapter tactics. Red Hunters give up those.

but red hunters get an interesting chapter tactic of thier own.
the get adamantium will, which is sound (and grey knights get the aegis, so phsyic defence all the way..)
they also get a once use only, upgrade to N units, where N is the turn number, to get a special rule for that turn.
That includes interceptor and skyfire.. (better on the earlier turns unfortunately,)

I think that Psyker spam is probably a good idea.
Lots of good units with Prescience. Thunderfires and/or Centurions obviously.

If you're going full psyker...look into the Culuxes as well...that guy can get nuts with enought psychic units around.

Warp quake is a good call. Strike squads get it as well. I assume this works within a transport to? its a good way to keep drop pods away from your stuff!

True.
You gotta think that Shooty as fething heck would be a good way to go.
After all, you can get Coteaz and 3 Inquisitors with Prescience real easy. Having the ability to give someone a clutch skyfire or interceptor is a big deal.
Here's the list, btw. And you can activate it on your opponent's turn as well.
• Counter-attack
• Monster Hunter
• Tank Hunters
• Hatred
• Skyfire
• Interceptor

Having just looked up the Red Hunters chapter tactics, I think its pretty solid, but not quite on par with White Scars. The ability to give units Skyfire is quite powerful, but flyer armies aren't as prominent now. The new Codex: Inquisition definitely takes the wind out of their sails a bit, because all the best force multipliers are from the Inquisition part of the GK dex. The only real trick that comes to mind is using Mordrak to bring a tooled-out Chapter Master wherever you want on turn 1, which would require a very aggressive strategy (shunting Dreadknights and the like). You're also barred from taking the best force multiplier from the SM dex (Tigurius). So, I'd just stick with the Inquisitors themselves for powerful combos as they bring the best Battle Brother buffs.

You can short your air defense a lot because of that tactic.
Plus all those Div rolls means you'll probably get ignore cover, which is great for Cents.

Is there an allies matrix for the red hunters or is it just like the marines matrix + the GK rule?

Its the same as space marines, apart formt he changes. They also get battle brothers with sisters of battle, (if you take an inquisitor.)
No special characters at all tho. (still annoyed with that change to the SM codex)

Take a unit with 4+ psycannons and put a SM IC into the squad. Now when you give the IC tank hunter with the CT the entire unit gets tank hunter...ouch.
Psyrifle dreads to give reinforced aegis to your SM cent devs gunline.
Psycannon libby to prescience your cent devs and add firepower rather than sit there twittering thumbs.
There is an interesting split in that if you take a stormraven in each detachment you will have your anti infantry/psyker from GK and your anti tank/AA from SM.
TFC is of course great and you could do some fun things with a bunch of orbital relays+prescience attached to a TFCs to make them T7.

yes, EXACTLY!
this coupled with the wargear in C:I, means GK can have a LOT of on demand special rules, as well as two BB"s where once we had none.
AA was one of our weaknesses, but now with a red hunter we can use skyfire when we need it without dumping a lot of points into AA.

As a GK-player, how would you best pay the troop tax when allying red hunters? Im thinking 5 tacticals with melta and combi-melta in a drop pod brings something useful, yet not in need of synergy, to the table and isnt awfully expensive in points.

Theres not much wrong with a tactical squad.. or some scout snipers to help against those increasingly popular monsters. Automatically Appended Next Post: My problem is what sm hq to take. My go to guy is tigurius, a regular librarian doesn't cut it.

Well, since tiggy isnt an option, its situational at best. But a captain with storm shield can help a GK terminatorunit mitigate a lot of the ap2 spam and lets the unit benefit from for example tank hunters or monster hunter from the chapter tactic.

Something I recently Tried out.
Grandmaster Mordrak + GK Libby(book powers so i cahn take Warp Rift) + Red Hunter Chapter Master in term armor with Shield Eternal + Inquisitor ordo mallus in term armor with psycannon.
Turn 1 drop. Very hard to shoot down, CM LoS non AP2 shots onto mordrak and if he fails an armor save, I have a good chances of generating a free Terminator. The Libby bring utility, and the Inquisitor roll div or Telepathy depending on the engagement. Turn one drop firing warprift and Psychic Shriek can put a big dent in any squad.
This work extremely well 2/3 games that I played in a tournament.

Also, putting a Red Hunters techmarine in a GK unit is a cheap way to increase the number of units that can possibly benefit from the chapter tactics.

Looking for a good way to add these to my sisters army as Allied BB. Efforts so far seem a little HQ heavy with a Libby in TDA, Coteaz and Celestine eating up a collective 350 odd points.
Coteaz with Centurions sounds like a good time.
As does getting a Vindicator in my Sisters' force for dropping some pie plates in between the twin linked exorcist AP1 rain.

Played a game today with my Sisters + Red Hunters + Prescience inquisitors Vs Dark Eldar.
Cedning the initiative and allowing his flyers to come in first was nice my twin linked skyfire devastator squad ruined my opponent's day for his first razorwing. plus I was able to prescience my Avenger Strike Fighter at the beginning of turn 3 thanks to football field deployment and it ate a second Razorwing with it's Bolt Cannon. The synergy these on-demand special rules plus prescience give can be really nice and tip the scales quickly.
Taking a libby with tacticals as a hq/scoring unit and rolling on Telekenesis also came in handy on turn 4 when I popped out of my Rhino and hallucination-ed the baron/ assaulted him with Celestine and he couldn't swing back or shoot overwatch. lol.
