I'm stuck. Literally cannot do it for the life of me. I'm reading and watching some videos at the moment but none of them cover the teeth in the sense of, how they did it. My brushes feel like they're too big, though i know they aren't, i'm just bad.

I get Bleached Bone in their gums!

I've tried cutting down an old brush so it's thinner. Should i cut it down more?
Or is there some secret to doing it? Like practising for example

Many thanks in advance.

ps. I'm an inexperienced painter and experimenting and trying out stuff each time. But this one has me stumped.

Dip the brush and then wipe off excess paint until there's only a little bit of paint on it. Carefully paint perpendicular to the teeth. this will ensure that paint does not enter the creases, giving the teeth some contrast (if it has been primed black). If you do hit the gums you will simply need to paint over the gums again.

Ask yourself: have you rated a gallery image today?

Hold the model between your pointer finger and your thumb, brace your painting hands palm on the palm of your other hand holding the model. Take a deep breath and make that stroke.

This is the method I use for maximum stability.

I don't have steady hands so I get around it byI useing light washes for Tyranid teeth (Sepia on white primer) gives the teeth shading and definition with out a lot of brush work. Then just paint the tongue and gums what ever color you want. The teeth will have a bit of a darker ivory/bone color but I doubt Tyranid brush, so I am ok with it. (if you want to make them pop you can dry brush an off white color over the teeth before proceeding.)

I go the other way. I use a #2 flat brush with bleached bone. Wash with brown. Add a little strip of off white.

Bone colour for the whole inside of the mouth, let it dry, then add a dark brown or black wash to the same area, and immediately use a clean finger to wipe most of it off the teeth (i.e. leaving the wash in all the recesses).

The most important part is the paint the teeth first, and then the rest of the head. That way any mistakes are easily covered up.

As far as teeth color, I actually like painting them pale silvery metallic with a black ink in the recesses. It looks really good on the tabletop with masses of gaunts, all their teeth glittering.
