Hello,
Here in my country it popped up, that the local publisher, who has the rights to the warhammer fantasy & 40k books here will stop coming out with new ones (they just started to come out with the hungarian language editions of the HH novels half a year ago (but have a lot of other books published (eg. Gaunts series).
Some people have written BL about this and this is their reply:
Thank you for your email. We have stopped handing out our licenses to foreign language publishers, as we have made this decision so that we can have more control over our products and quality.
We are aware that there are many fans of our Black Library books but for now, we are not planning to translate and publish our books into Hungarian. This is however something that we might be planning to do in the future.
Many thanks,
Stuart
Okay, I read some novels in my own language, others in english, but for example my gf doesn't want to read in english (but she enjoyed, the 40k books I gave her). Also it is a bit more convenient to go down to the nearest book store to pick them up (but lately the Hungarian publisher decided to release most of its books only at their webstore) than to order them for England.
It's like BL don't want to sell books.

It happend in Spain too. I asked Dan Abnett himself* on Twitter if he knew anything about this, and he kindly answered that seemed that GW wants to keep the translations in-house. So we will probably still have translationsin some languages, but directly from GW instead of using local publishers.
* maybe it wasn't actually him, but his wife Nik Vincent, they share the account.

So the title of this thread is more than a little misleading then?

Well, I have no idea how your translators are in hungary and spain but to be honest I really dislike the german BL books. There is no continuity in the use of proper names and its painfully obvious that the writers have no idea what 40k is all about... Sucks not to be a native speaker I guess :/

I think the translaitons are good, but the problem is, many people don't want or can't read a book not translated to their native language, so they can't get access to the novels.
Okay, as BL wrote, maybe in the future, they will do translations on their own, but until then what?

I'm afraid it's misleading for some countries, but true for others.

Yes, the title is wrong.
This is what happened in Germany:
Until December 2012, two of the most popular trade paperback publishers had the licence to publich BL books in Germany. Books had a wide popularity and all books stayed in print. January 2013 these went OOP and were no longer available, stock was sold fast. BL started to release new selected German books in larger and more expensive format. Old books were not reprinted. Noone can buy the first books of HH, Gaunt's Ghosts, Eisenhorn and Ravenor, Gotrek and Felix, Space Wolves etc, so no new customer supported. Not sure if other markets are used to that, but it is suicidal on the German market.
So BL publishes a few foreign language books, but they are few, usually only a selection of relatively new stuff and not including reprints of bestsellers. Revenue should be a fraction of previous levels, but as always, GW values total control more than revenue.
