The fluff and certain stories include Guardswomen in the front lines fighting along their gender opposite. How far is GW from throwing one or two female models into the regular IG kits and units? I feel like it would be interesting, adding a little more diversity to the Guard. I know the Sisters are pretty much the ones who lead that front, but what are people's opinions?

I would not really expect it, by any means. Maybe they'll make an Inquisitor kit with female options sometime in the future if the new codex proves as popular as I think it'll be, but I would not hold my breath for female 'guard models (much less non-hyper-sexualized female 'guard.)

Victoria Miniatures is currently working on making quality female versions of most-to-all of their model and conversion bit line. That is what I'm looking forward to, and probably your best bet if you want to field reasonable-looking women in your army ranks.

What someone online on the other side of the world that you've never met says should never deter you from taking a unit for being either weak or OP. The community is a great place to come for tactics advice, and there is a lot of very sound opinions and idea out there, but at the end of the day, play the game how you want to... Don't worry about the hordes of Dakka descending on your gaming club to arrest you for taking one heldrake or not using a screamerstar. Knowing the standard opinion (and that's all it is) on what is good/bad and conforming to that opinion religiously are two entirely separate things.

While I'd like the odd female plastic trooper in my squads, I know we won't see anything like that until the 6th Ed Guard codex at the earliest. They didn't re-do the Cadian plastics with the last few IG codexes, but the Catachans are getting pretty long in the tooth (and they look it). IF Games Workshop re-do the Catachans, we MAY see a female trooper or two, like we did in the Eldar and Dark Eldar sprues. I highly doubt they will release any Guard stuff before the Codex, and they may just drop the Catachans altogether, like they did with all the other non-Cadian Guard armies. Yeah, I know you can get them in metal... for now. That won't last forever, and GW is anxious to drop those legacy models out of the catalogue. After all, some of those metal Guard figs are older than some of the current 40K players.

Emperor's Eagles (undergoing Chapter reorganization)
Caledonian 95th (undergoing regimental reorganization)
Thousands Sons (undergoing Warband re--- wait, are any of my 40K armies playable?)

There are plenty of Dark Eldar ladies in the Warrior (and obviously wych) kits, so I think it would be a possibility if they made a new plastic infantry kit.

I would much much rather they worked on making more diverse armies than some female torsos etc. Im so over seeing cadians, cadians and ... catachans. I dont hate them i just would rather see a few different armies. Does it really matter that there is one/two pairs of boobs in a squad? eh, id rather see a more obvious diversity like at least 1 new regiment or one of the metal ones done in plastic (preferably resin )

But thats just me, i prefer my guys all being male (for no reason other than its easier). So all im hoping for is diversity thats readily available.

thats why most of my money goes to victoria miniatures because they have ahuge selection of possibilities over GW for variation.

I agree with the diverse regiments idea you mentioned. I would love to give GW my money if they made plastic Steel Legion or Vostroyian guards.

Your best bet is to make IG from non-GW ranges. Vic minis is releasing a female guard kit compatible with Cadians soon. The minis look great already, far better than the GW IG models. She sells a bunch of other excellent ranges too.

GW already makes female guardsmen models. You just can't tell because they don't have their breasts exposed.

I mean, look at this unit. This is what it looks like when men and women stand together against the enemies of the Imperium:

GW actually did create a couple female IG minis, but (with exception of the old Cadian grenade launcher girl) only one-off special characters rather than rank-and-file grunts.

It's a bit disappointing, especially given the fluff and drawings of the Xenonian Free Companies or the Dneipr panzer corps. I can only assume the designers simply did not consider this - the "white 30-something male" is still a standard, both because that's what a lot of media are focusing on, and because the designers themselves usually fit into this category, and may base their imagination chiefly on their own sub-group of society.

There was a pretty cool Cadian conversion kit (legs and torso, you had to get the arms and gun from an IG sprue), but predictably it got shot down by them lawyers.

The drawback of a mixed gender sprue is that either you make the non gender-specific parts androgynous to be used by both (Craftworld Eldar guardians, Dark Eldar warriors), or you reduce the compatibility.

I'd love to see a mixed gender regiment or two, but it makes better business sense to have all male (or all female) regiments in plastic.
