I recently got into X-Wing via a trade with someone. In the stuff I got included the contents of 2 of the X Wing starter boxes. Since that gives me 4 TIEs and 2 X Wings, I am unsure if I need to get any of those expansion packs.

My question is do the expansion packs for the X Wing and TIE Fighter come with different pilots and upgrades that are in the starter kit?

Yes, the X-Wing and TiE Fighter expansion ships do come with some different cards not in the starter box. For example Wedge comes in the X-Wing.

Wedge and Howlrunner are the two big ones, the best x-wing and TIE pilots. You'll definitely want Wedge if you play rebels, and you'll probably want Howlrunner if you play any kind of swarm list. But if you'd rather spend money on new ships you can always just print copies of the cards and use those (at least if it isn't an official tournament), the ship models in the expansions are exactly the same.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.
