Going to be a mini tourney in around a week where players are challenged by the club to make a 500pts deathstar unit (no FOC limitations but no vehicles allowed) to take on a 1,500pts swarm of cheap melee units. Winner is the player that slaughtered the most enemy models before being overwhelmed.
My deathstar is as follows:
Destroyer Lord + Sempiternal Weave + Resurrection Orb
3 * Lords + 3 Gaunglets of Fire + 3 Sempiternal Weaves
3*Harbingers of Despair
Harbinger of Eternity with + Chronometron
Harbinger of the Storm+ Lightning Field
Total: 500pts
This deathstar has 4 Sv2+ models to tank the blows, 3 flamers, 3 S8 vs Ld templates, Reanimation on a 4+, preferred enemy everything, all the lords get to re-roll misses in melee, the squad gets a free re-roll every phase (for those pesky 1s on the armor save) and every enemy squad that assaults it gets hit by d6 S8 lightning bolts.
Vs Hormagaunts (T3 Ld6 Sv6+) this squad statistically kills 14.5 models per overwatch and another 10 or so in melee, and that's not counting the casualties they'd inflict with all those templates in their own shooting phase (edge out to 18", let the enemy close in to 12" on his turn, walk up to optimal range and nail the bastards).
Main problem with this list is that majority toughness is 4. If I manage to get someone to lend me a fourth Lord I would drop two of the despairteks to make room for it, giving me the following deathstar:
Destroyer Lord + Sempiternal Weave + Resurrection Orb
4 * Lords + 4 Gaunglets of Fire + 4 Sempiternal Weaves
Harbinger of Despair
Harbinger of Eternity with + Chronometron
Harbinger of the Storm+ Lightning Field
Total: 495pts
One template less but majority toughness is now 5 and there's 5 Sv2+ models to take front line and kick ass.
