Hi

Im starting on painting a Zone mortalis set up soon and i'll be placing an order for some airbrush paints and wanted to know what colours people are using for hazard markings (a la iron warriors chevrons).

I'm painting a few with hazard chevrons so i can build set ups to include aircraft hangars - similar to the GD/FW dioramas.

Im looking primarily at Vellejo but they have a quite a lot of colours and as the rest of the board will be in variations of grey/black - is darker yellow a better shade to go?

recommendations and pointers please

if a dolphin will jump out of water for fish, just imagine what it would do for chips?

Testors Insignia Yellow and Tamiya Flat Yellow are both used by the scale model community for real world hazard yellows IIRC. Yellow Chromate is another popular color for that task by that crowd. However, pretty much any yellow will do the part well enough (barring odd ball pastels and what not).

I wouldnt worry about picking a darker yellow though. Instead, weather, chip, and use dirt pigments and washes to make it look worn and less bright. The end result of doing that always looks more realistic to me than when people try to paint it dirty straight away.

My go-to yellow progression is all Vallejo.

Try VGC heavy ochre (super opaque) as a base, if you want a closer match for the old iyanden dark sun VGC heavy goldbrown is spot on.

Then highlight with VMC flat yellow and do edges with light yellow. Extremes points with ice yellow.

cheers folks, i'll try and stick with 2 shades for the airbrush then use existing paints for weathering/damage effects.

i'll play around with some different concepts of whether standard hazard or chevron patterns appear better. they'll have voss pattern lightnings parked on them anyway so it should look pretty funky without too much effort
