Recently started collecting some CSM and before I expand them much further I have decided to see what the Dakka community thinks of what I have put together so far.

HQ----------

Chaos Lord - 170
Bike
Murder sword
Gift of Mutation
Sigil of corruption
Mark of Slaanesh

Chaos Lord - 180
Juggernaut
AoBF
Gift of Mutation
Sigil of corruption
Mark of Khorne

Troops----------

Chaos Cultists-50

Chaos Cultists-50

I can either barebones it here with 2x cultist naked for 100 total or do something else. While I am aware that cultist are considered the best troops do to cheapness which lets you fill out the other FoC slots with more points I am not against other troops outright.
(I would actually prefer bog standard CSM as I really like the idea of them)

Fast Attack----------

Helldrake Tax-170 (I only own the one of these, and I am trying to save my hobby allowance for nice looking FW stuff, the missus only stands for so much in plastic crack purchases)

Chaos Spawn x3 90(for Axelord)
Mark to come later depending on points left

Chaos bikers-185
2 extra bikes
2x melta guns
Mark of Slaanesh
Icon of Excess
Gift of Mutation

Heavy Support----------

Vindicator-135
Siege shield
Combi-bolter

Vindicator-135
Siege shield
Combi-bolter

Havocs-141
4x Autocannon
2 extra Havocs

Total 1306
544 remaining

My concerns.
1. I have been mulling over IG or Necrons as allies. Necrons appeals to my love of conversion since I would be compelled to get them looking like a suitable form of Chaos Android, although arguably IG does this as well.

2. With only the single Chaos Tax and the pair of Vindicators armor saturation is very low as it stands. Granted there are substantial threats in both of the HQ squads but I do not see them drawing the correct type of fire away from my armor.

3. There is not an overabundance of anit av in this list as of yet.

Really looking for ways that what I already have listed could be improved or supported either with allies or different choices.

Also hello Dakka Dakka longtime snooper finally turned poster.

Hey man, glad to see you finally decided to join us! Proud of you for picking 2 vindicators! Takes a ballsy kinda guy to pick vindis over drakes. IMO I think you need a solid troop choice that either won't be killed with a round of bolters or has no transport to claim objectives at the end. Cultists are great because they are cheap but unless you take big squads then they are only ok for holding backfield objectives. If your looking at allies with ig or necrons then there's a few ways to get around it. With ig you can take melta vets in a vendetta to massively increase your at power. Maybe a Russ too for av14 to take some heat off your vindis. For necron then 2 small warrior/immortal squads in scythes are good because they jump out exactly were you want and you can keep them inside without risk of losing them for as long as you want. Also the scythes weapon is awesome. Pair that with a cheap lord, cryptek with haywire staff for glancing vehicles to death and maybe a barge and your all set. What do you think? I'll throw a few quick lists up. Gimmie a min

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Ig allies

Ccs with 4 x melta 90

Vet squad with 3 x melta 100

Marbo 65

Vendetta gunship 130

Vanilla leman Russ 150 (could also use exterminator depends what you want more ap3 ordnance or light vehicle remover)

This comes to 535.

Necron list

Necron overlord 90

Cryptek with haywire staff 25

5 warriors with scythe 165

5 warriors with scythe 165

Anil barge 90

This is also 535

Thanks for the welcome, and for the advice.

I also get how flimsy the cultists are, I just cannot justify to myself taking more of them without absolutely needing too. makes me really want to get my "primary" aka better troops to be from allies. And I like the mobility offered by the necron transports, as a Eldar and the DE player before Chaos.(Have yet to dust off my eldar since I had a wildrider host like, well whenever the heck it was we could take those) I really like the ability to put something where I want it when I want it to be there, barring my opponent disagreeing with some form of dakka.

I also feel like the necrons give me better options to expand into higher point totals ala 2000.

Also 535 would leave me enough points to mark my spawn, although it would be of dubious quality to do such a thing, as it would have to be khorne if at all.

I also just noticed my "rank" title and cannot help but think I choose my rank structure perfectly for my name. Even if I thought it was an accident maybe chaos guided my hand.

Hahaha, personally I would pick necron too. I love them and their flyers are amaze balls. Feel free to jiggle it around abit depending on what you fancy but I think the 2 warriors in scythes are a must. As for marking the spawn I think the only worthwhile one would be nurgle for the extra toughness. Do you need the second lord? Or can you drop him and use the spawn for tar pitting and rushing things like pathfinders, devastators etc?

Battle Barge Impossible Fortress

Those Vindicators have the best setup.

I'm interested to see how that list does, but I hate units of 10 cultists. I've never actually seen them work because objectives aren't just on the corner in your deployment zone.. but YMMV

Thanks, I figured combi bolter is such a cheap "save" against a weapon destroyed result, and after playing my wych rush DE with how agressive I play there is no way I could think of dropping the shield.

I also dislike the cultist being so small, however I would have to drop something to flesh(haha) them out with more bodies.

As for the necron fliers I have yet to play against them (Currently dont get many games, however that will be changing shortly) so while I like the idea of them I am not sure how/if I will like them.

I *could* drop the second lord, I just really want to keep him. I actually like Khorne the best, its just that the god of Battle is too much punches so a more khornish list doesnt seem fun for me right now. Also it could be argued that if I was going to drop the second lord I might as well drop the spawn for another Hellturkey.

Although with the proliference of Tau where I play (there seem to be several *new hotness* lists player everytime I go to my FLGS) I see more than one a large investment for something that will die too quickly if they dont all come on together. One however with all the hype they have could absorb enough shooting for my lords to get closer or take some heat off my vindis.

Of course playing with the necron fliers as well could make that entire argument null.

Great to see this list being discussed; I love it. I've been running a very similar list with great success in my little local meta. I run:

Juggerlord w/Axe of Fury + 5 bikers w/2 melts
3 Spawn
Heldrake
Maulerfiend
Vindicator
Oblit
Vendetta
IG command squad with 4 plasmas in a chimera with heavy flamer
manticore
All of the above is a turn 2 threat which is all flimsy on a unit by unit basis, but overall adds up to threat overload. The manticore never does much but forces my opponents to go after it in order to prevent long term damage. And its there to reach out & score first blood on something.

I also run a cultist squad, Plague Marines & a plague lord on palanquin to provide backfield protection for the manticore. The lord is my Warlord and with 5 wounds, T5 + Sigil hopefully will keep my opponent from scoring Warlord point.

The secret to the list and yes, I say this seriously, is the IG troop choice: Penal Legion. Yeah, yeah, I know they suck, but they keep the list fun. During the heyday of aegis defense lines, they would outflank and grab a quad gun in half my games against aegis defense lines. It was great. Or they would outflank in front of the wall & go to ground for a 2+ save. They can also just hide out somewhere & score line breaker.

The local meta has been swamped with Tau lately, but with most of my units across the board by turn 2, I've been able to keep most games close & win more than lose.

I've been thinking of adding Noise Marines to deal with biker spam, but that's just an idea at this point.

Similar list was discussed here: http://www.imperiusdominatus.com/2013/04/e-mail-csmig-1850.html
