Hello WW2 gamers! You guys may have seen me rambling on in the GW side of the forums, but recently I've decided to shift my focus into the 15mm world, starting with Flames of War.

Now, a warning; I know that the Flames of War rules are more for the Historical gaming genre, but I can't help but want a few "fun" scenarios to throw around every once in a while. These scenarios have nothing to do with the actual true events of WW2, and aren't historical in nature.

I was poking around the internet the other day for some cool 15mm figure designers, and I came across more than a few that actually design miniatures that use the same platoon-based units for their construction. Most notably I found a set of 15mm Nazi zombies, US army Zombies, and Russian zombies all built to the same platoon design as the Flames of War units (i.e. they had a small Command base, and six Infantry bases). After seeing this, I was hoping to get some feedback and help with making a kind of Nazi-Zombies game mode using the Flames of War rules.

To start: do you think that people would actually be interested in a game mode like this for Flames of War? I'm not sure what the tone generally is for Flames of War clubs when it comes to making custom rules.

Next up; the actually important questions! I'm quite new to the Flames of War setting, and would like some general yes/no type answers as I don't have an actual rulebook right now (I'm still trying to navigate the different rulebooks and such for the game).

Are there rules for Close Combat in Flames of War? If not, how difficult do you think it would be to include a Close Combat element into the game?

What sort of units would you suggest when it comes to "survivors", and what kind of stats would you give Zombies in general?

Thank you for any help in this area. I also have a few ideas for games involving Aliens using FoW units and rules, but I'm going to wait until I get a bit more into the game before trying to make so large a rule addition.

EDIT: I was thinking that using the Partisans and Polizei units for "Survivors", but I'm not sure if that is a different game from Flames of War.

Do it, people will play it or not

This is assaulting in FoW

The problem with zombies is they know no fear so motivation is pointless skill wise maybe conscripts.

It would be pretty cool.

Maybe there would be a chance of the zombies actually coming back to life after being "killed"?

Would love to try something like this myself!

Really good idea

Isn't the assault in FoW really risky as it is? Imagine if they could turn the units into zombies

Painting a decent sized horde of Nazi zombies in 15mm would be a daunting task and at the end I'm not sure that the granularity or general emphasis on armoured and combined arms war would be the best ruleset.

If you did it, though, I would suggest that the zombies would be best represented as "always in bullet proof cover" (to make them hard to kill with small arms), no ranged weapons(assault only, obviously) and no double time.

Thanks for the replies, guys.

@Reaver83, I understand the difficulty in giving Zombies motivation skills, but I'm thinking that the Zombies would be Fearless Conscripts, considering that they'll walk through a storm of lead, but trip over themselves all too often.

@CanineGallows, I'm hoping that Assaults will be easy to repulse at first (as there will be few zombie stands on the board), but eventually the hordes will continue to grow to the point where there's around 3-4 Zombie stands per human soldiers.

@Berzerker Saberhagen, Flames of War's rules for force organization will definitely have to be fiddled with to produce a fun game, though I am confident that limiting the survivors to a small points limit of infantry will do the trick. I'm hoping that I can keep some of the "Combined arms" element in by including rules for purchasing weapons for individual stands.

Some good news though; I got my rulebook, so I should have a few ideas for survivors/ Zombies up tommorrow.

If I had a dollar for every dollar I spent I'd have all my money back.
