With the rise of the new plastic kits that PSC, Zvezda, Battlefront et al are producing it's interesting to note that there's no customization industry that has arisen to modify these kits as has happened for GW with Chapterhouse and the like. The sole exception I can think of is Peter Pig's Katyusha crew for the Zvezda 1:100 Katyusha. Surely these 15mm kits lend themselves to having additional crew, stowage, camouflage, battle damaged and obscure variants produced to enhance them.
Anyone care to speculate?

I think the real difference is GW plc charge huge amounts for plastic kits.
Therefore the associated 'compatable parts' can be 'compatably priced' making it more economically viable. Also in WWII there are limits to what can be done.AND the smaller scale means that in a lot of cases slight variations are not noticable, and major variations can be scratch built from ACCURATE vehicles plans freely available.
Also there are lots of companies making lots of WWII stuff. If a company WAS going to make generic conversion kits , it would have to find out from multiple manufactures their long term release plans , to make sure a new kit/model was not going to be released.

I think the prime reason is that the market is smaller. The need for conversions is also considerably less in historical games due to fairly standardised euipment..
I am quite surprised at the lack of 15mm stowage, I would have thought that there would be a lot of demand for it. I was looking for some the other week and he only manufacturer that I can find is Skytrex who are , at least currently, no use.

The prefect example of someone missing the point.
Do not underestimate the Squats. They survived for millenia cut off from the Imperium and assailed on all sides. Their determination and resilience is an example to us all.
-Leman Russ, Meditations on Imperial Command book XVI (AKA the RT era White Dwarf Commpendium).
Its just a shame that they couldn't fight off Andy Chambers.

I agree, whilst FOW is in the top 5 Wargames in terms of Numbersof players it's still nowhere near 40k. On the plus side, the shift to more modern equipment means we have more and more diverse figures, weapons and vehicles to choose from. Equally other manufacturers like Khurasan are kicking up some serious dust as many gamers see their offerings and go "ME WANTEE!!!".
I also agree that I am surprised there is a lack of a Company doing "ancilliaries" like shell boxes and casings, camo nets, flags, posters, Objectives and HQ, Fuel Drums etc etc. Skytrex had a lovely line in stowage and such, but it was a tad expensive and it's currently unavailable...

Collecting Forge World 30k????? If you prefix any Thread Subject line on 30k or Pre-heresy or Horus Heresy with [30K] we can convince LEGO and the Admin team to create a 30K mini board if we can show there is enough interest! |

I would like to see more 15mm objective markers, mini diarama sort of thing, like a crew trying to repair a tracked tank or just some officers enjoying a nice bacon butty and a pot of tea lol.

Well in 20mm there is a mass of all those things... a huge after market selection thanks to the braille scale use of models.
15mm doesnt have that advantage.
So partly it can be driven by an associated hobby.
