I think I've finally settled on a color scheme I like and I'm most likely sticking with this now. Just waiting for my basing grit to arrive so I can finish the base and see the overall look.

Great highlighting on the claws and armour plating.

What scheme you going for on the base?

Thanks. I was thinking of a basic rocky desert base since I'm a newbie.

Or I might try some of these:

That looks very good.

I especially like the fact that it is almost completely the reverse of mine.

technically I think it's pretty well painted.
However I worry that the orange is too close in tone to the skin colour.
Picking a desert base will further flatten the model's impact from distance.
Maybe if the sand colour was more in the terracotta shade (ie a dark /dirty red / orange.
Else a contrasting colour like blue?
Note: this is not meant to be a negative comment, more of my opinion on how to make your army 'pop'.
If you have access to photoshop or similar you could digitally recolour the white base in your photo to try different colours.

Also I've started taking photos to use as reference for weathering which can be found here. Please send me your photos so they can be found all in one place!!

Bubber makes a good point for a "pop" on the table, yet because the colors are so close, I might go ahead and go with another similar color for the sand. This way it would look like a "natural" camouflage. Kinda like how a brown spider blends in with the brown tree and leaves its living in. IDK. Do what you want, its your model.

Hey, you must be the one who did a Carnifex in that exact color scheme too, that was actually the inspiration for my Tyranids color scheme but I ended up reversing the colors while adding some red and orange.

Good point, I was going for a desert base because it would be more of a natural camouflage, but then again I guess the planets that the Tyranids invade aren't really their natural environment necessarily so I could go with something more contrasting.
As if my choice of base wasn't hard enough I will have to re-think it now. ^^

Nice, I like those black spots on the carapace, I'd steal that if I had some black paint.

Heh, about half a brood of Hormagaunts done when I realized I probably can't be bothered with this color scheme, the blending is killing me. Back to trying to figure out a new color scheme while my painted models take a bath.
