I've been doing SM for a few years and I've now recently started a guard army, and I'd like some peoples opinions on it and how to improve, I'm going for a platoon army with heavy suppot.
So here it is:

Vox caster
Regimental Standard
Plasma Gun

PCS 50 Points

Vox caster
Platoon Standard

x4 Infantry Squads 320 Points

4 Vox casters 20 Points
2 Flamers 10 Points
2 Grenade launchers 10 Points

Leman Russ Battle Tank 150 Points

Lascannon 15 Points
Heavy Bolters 20 Points

You will spend the first 30mins putting a ton of guard models on the board, and take 1/4th off by the end of turn 1. Its a hard knock life for walking guard these days. The tank is very needed and plan to buy multiple vendettas too. Plan on an aegis if you plan on being a defensive player as that all foot guard has these days. My Guard sits in a corner of the board in front of 6 basilisk and I just make life hell. Only drop pod and bike armies bother me and bother are in very limited supply in my area.

Not a legal list, you only have 1 troop choice.

I'd expand this out ASAP to give it more specials, if you're lacking them get some of the FW Hostile Environment SWS team conversion kits and save a third of the money.

PCS 50 Points

Vox caster
Platoon Standard

Platoon Standard is absolute, complete and total garbage, honestly. If you want to use the model I suggest you do what I do; I just use him as kind of like a second in command Sergeant in my blobs, its fluffy, looks cool and doesn't require you to obsess over getting it into your list.

x4 Infantry Squads 320 Points

4 Vox casters 20 Points
2 Flamers 10 Points
2 Grenade launchers 10 Points

I would not run them separately, I would take at most 2 Vox Casters per 30 men in a blob, and only 1 max at 20. As others have said this is also illegal, you need to insert another PCS here to make two platoons.

Leman Russ Battle Tank 150 Points

Lascannon 15 Points
Heavy Bolters 20 Points

The LRBT is pretty much the worst variant of the tank chassis, honestly at the moment, maybe tied with the Punisher. The Eradicator lets you maul Xenos, the Executioner is a good all rounder at killing infantry and shaving MC's down to size, the Vanquisher is a nice tank hunter/MC shaver. Demolisher works alright with a foot list.

Regardless, scrap the Lascannon and HB's, they can only snapfire if the main gun fires because of a change in the IG FAQ where 'lumbering behemoth' got ripped out and replaced with the unit type being turned into a 'heavy tank' which means you just count as stationary after moving 6'', which doesn't offset ordnance penalties.

Yeah the nerfed the hell out of the LRBT with the change. It made the other varients more tenable though. Also, makes the ordnance battery more worthwhile of a choice.
