Like the title says I have approximately 1100 pts of chaos. They are as follows...

-Chaos Lord of Nurgle Combat familiar, Power fist and Plasma pistol
-Chaos Sorcerer of Tzeentch +2 lvls of mastery, Spell familiar, Force staff and Plasma pistol
-Chaos Space Marines x10 2 Heavy Bolters and a Power sword and Plasma pistol
-Plague Marines x10 2 Plasma Guns, a Power sword and Plasma pistol
-Possessed x10 2 Gifts of Mutation, Mark of Slaanesh, Rhino dedicated transport
-(or two squads of 5, same perks)
-Attack Bikes x5 2 Melta Guns, Power sword Mark of Nurgle

a pretty solid roster in my opinion, I did A LOT of research before purchase and construction and formulating how they are all going to work with one another. But as you can all see I don't have that "badass" unit and/or units on my list and have a couple thoughts...

-Chaos Terminators x5 2 Chainfists and combi-plasmas, 3 dual-lightning claws, Mark of Khorne

or

-Heldrake 1 Baleflamer

or...

-Maulerfiend 2 Lasher tendrils

OR

-Chaos Land Raider Dozer blade, Extra armor, Havoc launcher

Now, in your expert opinions what two would best make my army... 'pop'

I look forward to your comments

Hi, dude. I can comment on what you have listed, but maybe I can help you with a list later

-Lord w/ MoN should consider replacing that pistol with a Lightning Claw. You are unlocking Plague Marines as Troops instead of Elites, but you are only taking advantage of this once. Which means to get the most out of the Lord's MoN, you should consider taking two units of them.

-There are enough AP2 Psychic Powers and since your sorcerer isn't Ahriman, he can only use one anyway.. So you're either wasting a power or the plasma pistol on the Sorcerer. Drop it and keep him cheap. Also consider just keeping him Level 2.. Because there are too many Witchfires... Sucks to end up with 3 and a plasma pistol, huh?

-The CSM need plasma guns. The Champion needs a Power Axe (Only Noise Marines should have Power Swords). Plasma pistols are a waste when your Champs can turn into a demon prince in a challenge (so don't kill them early with overheats). You'll find that if you have a heavy bolter on a CSM unit, that weapon does about as well as 9 bolters in the unit, without special rules like Imperial Fists Chapter Tactics. If you can double up on special weapons, do it.. Not Heavy Weapons though.

-The Plague Marines only need to be 6-8 man. Plasma is perfect, but the champion shouldn't have a Plasma Pistol (see point above). Plague Champs need Power Axes because with FnP and T5 they could probably survive to swing and since they're I3 anyways, it's okay to strike last. I'd turn both the CSM and the PMs to 2 units of PMs..

-Biker Champs need Power Axes (Toughness 5)

-The Possessed are a combat unit, but the only combat delivery vehicle we have is the Land Raider. The Rhino hinders assault units terribly. If you only have one Rhino, the Plague Marines need it.. If you have two.. Well. The Troops need Rhinos.

-If it comes down to taking a drake (which would be your only one, I guess) or anything else, pick the drake. Because: Heldrake.

I hope that this helps you a little, but it's probably not what you wanted to hear. I have lots of experience with all of the units that you mentioned, so I can elaborate more if you like. Lord knows everyone here on dakka has heard me ramble like crazy.

-Bro

That we have

I'd agree with everything bro said, i've yet to see him say something disagreeable. He certainly has loads more experience than me. I'd take him up on his offer to help you make a list later on as well.

What can I add?

Possessed don't seem to be the best assault unit in the codex. If you think they're cool and you're set on them, don't let others tell you not to bring them, and be sure to deliver them in a land raider. If you're open to taking other CC units though, do so.

you shouldnt take regular csm ever, really. The meta of the whole book is to take badass HQs to unlock badass Elites as troops. If you want to take cheap troops, thats what you have cultists for. If you do take them though, you should, as bro said, double up special weapons, usually plasma guns. If you take anything besides special weapons, it should be a rhino or more CSMs. I cant imagine gearing these guys out. Keep em simple

sorcerers have 3 roles in the CSM codex:
shooting-witchfires from all trees
utility-telepathy maledictions
close combat-biomancy

since only ahriman can cast more than one witchfire per turn and only daemon princes are CC based sorcerers, that leaves us with the utility option for sorcerers. Make sure you have something in mind for em

"We are the Red Sorcerers of Prospero, damned in the eyes of our fellows, and this is to be how our story ends, in betrayal and bloodshed. No...you may find it nobler to suffer your fate, but I will take arms against it." -Ahzek Ahriman

get some obliterators for instead of termies. you get 6 wounds in a unit of 3, can shoot every weapon almost and someare twin linked, and only get deadlier the closer they get and if they get into cc they have 2 base powerfist attacks( i think 2 dont have the dex in front of me)

and heldraakes are cool. but when it comes on it will be the main focus of fire until its dead and if its not then burn everything in site.

personally i would get more bikes. i run a squad of 5 with a lord on a bike for 6 and they kill alot of stuff. put on a mark of K to get axe of fury and you kill even more with alot of S+2 ap 2 attacks

When in doubt do what seems hardest

It was perfectly acceptable man, I was just looking for some feedback and you guys nailed it! I have been thinking of making a small squad of noise marines and I downed my PM to number 8 and I was wondering if a squad of 6 or 7 Noise Marines with close combat weapons and a power sword would be an effective task force for forcing units out into the open.

Also how does the Havoc Launcher stack up? Is it even worth taking on my Rhino or will every shot ping?

Regarding the havoc launchers: It depends on what your transports are for. For example, a unit of 5 NM with a Blastmaster shooting out the top of a Rhino with Havoc Launcher is a pretty good shooting platform.. but remember that stunned/shaken can hurt the havoc launcher even if it it 12 points.

The point of transports in my list is to move constantly. 12" plus flat-out before it blows up, so that means no havoc launcher shootin'.

Ultimately, you need to know how you play with Rhinos before nailing which upgrades to give them.

7 Noise Marines with CCW/BP and power sword is a good unit but they need Icon of Excess for staying power when they get caught in the open.. but if you're only taking 6 or 7 NMs, all you're really getting over CSM is the Fearless.. and if you took 6-7 CSM they could accomplish the same task for cheaper. When it comes time for the 6-7 CSM to take a morale check, they're probably combat-ineffective anyway so you won't care whether they run. Plus, anyone who shoots at 6-7 marines will probably just remove the entire unit. Things to think about.
