If you have Storm Troopers with the Airborne Assault doctrine, and they deploy from a Valkyrie/Vendetta's grave chute, can they re-roll their scatter?
I have a feeling the answer will be No because they are disembarking and not deep striking (though the Codex says they scatter like a Deep Strike), but I wanted to see what the consensus would be here.

Since they are not deep striking, I'd say no.

With out digging out my IG codex to see if the wrding is the same, the Inq codex uses "deploy the unit as if it were deep striking" in the grav chute rules. This means the unit fallows all the rules it has for deep striking, including airborne assault.

The wording is different, it says "like" instead of "as if".

I was under the impression that this is RAI. Of course there will be those dicks out there that try to neuter your trying to use units besides the standard mechguard units. After all it is called "Airborne Assault" one would think that grav chuting is one of the things they intended it for. Unless your playing in -god forbid- a tournament, then just tell your opponent this is what I think this rule means, if you're okay with that, then that's what I'll do.

Like and as if are only academically different; they both say the same thing; you treat the deployment the same as you would entering the game from reserves via the deep strike rules.

This is my Rulebook. There are many Like it, but this one is mine. Without me, my rulebook is useless. Without my rulebook, I am useless.
Stop looking for buzz words and start reading the whole sentences.
