I've been working on some Orks, and I really like the way the metal is turning out:

The metal looks dark and worn, as though it's been dragged across many battlefields, stained with the soot of many wars. It looks weathered.

As I started playing games, I noticed the deficit Orks face against vehicles and heavy armor. I also got to a point where I needed a little break from green. So I decided to kill two birds with one ally: Chaos Space Marines.

I wanted to use the metal technique as the basis for my army, but I didn't want to do iron warriors- I can't abide yellow paint. So I painted up a test case:

Overall, I'm moderately pleased with the (albeit rough) work, but I feel the gun is lacking something. I tried some versions with blue shoulderpads, but it just wasn't doing it for me. I want (to paraphrase words used to describe the Chaos Warriors) the miniatures to CLANK when they hit the table. But I'm concerned the simple scheme will look too drab.

Please offer any comments you might have.

They look cool fella, have you thought about adding the colour of your ork clan on the pauldrons and on their weapons?

A good idea, but I'd eventually like to grow them into their own force, so I don't want to tie them to my boyz.

This few comments must mean my painting is terrible!

The iron hands have 3 successor chapters, the sons of Erebus, the black hornets or the scarlet skull. Check those out see if you like the schemes and fluff and see where you go from there.

Most people will only comment if they have input so don't think bad chap they might be at a loss with ideas.

You could always make it a homebrew warband, or surf Lexicanum for renegade legions.

Also, about your painting. It looks dreary. Now dreary is generally something you want to avoid in your models because they won't look as good from a distance. That said, there's nothing really wrong with your model except for 1 thing: The base. He's painted as though he's wearing dark armor at night. And yet beneath his feet is shining, sunny grass. This is a hilarious clash, but your orks are based on the bright sunny grass, so you're left with only one option: Paint your metal brighter.

P.S. Your further incentive to paint the metal brighter is so that it looks different from the metal that the orks are using. If those two are standing next to each other, things are going to look cheap.
