Why was this not thought of as a USR?

Doesn't it seem like a swarm of Gargoyles, or Stormboyz should be able to do something to a Flier in combat?

Maybe not units that are literally "jump" units like assault marines or warp spiders but units that have flight should be able to assault flier in some way...even if they could only hit on 6s...

Swooping hawks used to have a apocalypse formation that allowed them to get in CC with flyers (pretty mean, because they had haywire grenades).

You're assaulting an aircraft, even with a Jump Pack it wouldn't be as easy as you'd imagine. With Jump Packs, they're designed for short hops of thrust, not prolonged flight.

Swooping Hawks don't jump...it is a flight generator...just like with Stormboyz.

Maybe there should be a difference in flying and jump infantry.

Maybe they should be able to put grenades onto it/throw grenades onto it with skyfire? Or do something like a mini-Vector Strike?

Perhaps not Supersonic flyers, because that would be just stupid, but a squad of ASMs (Assuming anyone takes ASMs in the first place...) throwing Kraks can make most flyers think twice about where they are going.

There are more weird rules honestly, and it would at least do something.

Yes, surely even a jump from an Assault Marine would put them in a good position to throw a grenade? I doubt they could swing a chainsword or whatnot, but a grenade is very plausible. And other armies, such as Eldar and Orks mentioned, combat is plausible, but the massive change in rules to distinguish between jump and flying infantry would be too much possibly?

I like this idea. Not for all jump infantry, but for swooping hawks and gargoyles, it makes a lot of sense. Who else would get it? Jet bikes? How many of the jump/skimmers in the game should be capible of full, controlled, agile, flight?

Vector Strike is a good base to work from. Just replace all the damage mechanics with "each model in the unit can make a single melee attack" I might toss something about not being able to use unwieldy weapons. For something as fast a a fly-by on a jet, you don't have time to plant a melta bomb. That's just an idea though.

Mhmm, kind of like distinguishing between skimmers and fliers or jump and flying MCs...

It would be nice to have some ability for units that the fluff heavily supports in doing so....like the now-unused Swooping Hawks.

Or hey...if Gargoyles feel like flying face first into the engines...they should be able to.

They could (also?) have a separate rule. If a flyer moves over them as part of it's move, it needs to take a dangerous terrain test as it hoovers 1d3 gargoyles into the intakes. (no save for the nids)

That would be fantastic for preventing fliers and FMCs from moving and Vector striking...and is heavily tyranid themed.

Love it.

What about flyers that don't have/don't actually need intakes. IE necron flyers, they visually have intake like things but it is cannon fluff that they fly in space and therefore don't actually need them (or perhaps they aren't actually intakes at all.) I don't know if there are other flyers like that but if there are this rule would be completely nonsensical when applied to them.

Either way I think a wall of gargoyles hitting the plane would do something to it.

And it's not like tank shocking gargoyles makes any sense.
