Infiltrating Broodlord

I was just over on Btown for the first time in a while and I just noticed that it seems everyone (including me) and their dog has a sizable collection of Blood Angels for sale or trade. I'd like to just buy them all so I can build the whole chapter but I really don't have that kind of money and I'm actually trying to swap out my army myself and I realized that by Supply and Demand, I have something, not very desirable. So, just wondering, how come everyone has a bunch of Blood Angels just lying around that they don't want?

Because the changes in 6th edition took a tertiary codex and punt kicked it lower than whale feces. I love my BA army and will never get rid of it, but I accept the fact that it is not OP by ANY means.

Now, we like big books. (And we cannot lie. You other readers can’t deny, a book flops open with an itty-bitty font, and a map that’s in your face, you get—sorry! Sorry!) |

There was a brief period of time where Blood Angels were the hotness and many people made impulse purchases.
Now that they have fallen from favor many of those players are trying to jettison them.

It's not like you can't just use them "Counts As" another Marine codex.
But yeah, it's all the passengers getting off the bandwagon. There's a new hotness, and Blood Angels aren't that strong in 6th Edition. So until they get a codex, which is a year off probably, they're likely to get common on EBay and other sale sites.

I started 40k when Blood Angels were worthwhile in 5th Edition. I bought about 50 Assault Marines to make a DOA list. 6th Edition killed that list idea quickly and at the moment I want to eliminate some Assault Marines because I was stupid and never realized I could make cooler looking Assault Marines if I bought Death Company boxes as well. I'd keep all of my Asasult Marines if it wasn't for that mess up. It's easier to sell them than to just disassemble them and give them new shinier bits.

This is kind of what I was afraid of hearing. It seems Space Marine stuff, new and old, is getting a lot of fresh movement recently due to their new codex (read: TFC, Stormtalons, Drop Pods, bikers) just based on your opinion, will the next BA codex be good enough to warrant such "market stimulus"?

If DA, CSM, and C:SM are any measure, I'd have to say probably not. Hold the BA for 7th ed.

We haven't gotten enough time with SM yet to really say how good they will be. DA and CSM made splashes when they came out and people wanted them. I'm sure it will be the same with BA.

There are tourney results in. They don't look good for meqs. The new space marine book isn't different enough; we don't need time. Tau/Eldar/Daemons are all very good at butchering meqs. That's not changing between now and BA drop time.

As one of those guys on Bartertown you're talking about, I can say that it was a tough decision entirely about shelf space. BA was my first army, back in 2006. But the codex is 4 years old this March and I haven't played them since late 5th. GW and FW keep putting out so many great toys for all of my armies while making other armies viable for the first time in two editions. One of my 9 armies needed to go and BA was the one I was least likely to take off the shelf and play. So I traded half my army for a warhound titan, traded a quarter of it for Daemons for a friend and kept a small force for allies.
The idea that this is all bandwagoners hopping off just shows how out of touch some folks are with the secondary market. The bandwagoners got out of BA 2 1/2 - 3 years ago. The bandwagoners are trading away their Tau and Eldar right now - and there are some *great* deals to be found as a result. They can be identified by the phrase "They really don't fit my playstyle."
As to the current glut, I blame the fact that the new digital codex was a wakeup call that they weren't going to see an update for at least another year or so.

Give/sell me the models! I care not for Flavor of the Month/Hotness/New Codex armies! =D
I remember when folks were loyal to their armies and relished smack talking and laying down the gauntlet for their army's honor. Now it's mostly about netlists and what current army has the most over-powered/near broken units and rules for the least amount of points. And thus (for now) the Blood Angels have been made to suffer the secondary market... <_<

It's part "flavor of the month" syndrome (i'm sure when 7th ed comes out and Tau / Eldar are no longer the hotness, you will see gaggles of Tau and Eldar on the swap shop and bartertown... its just how wargaming goes), and part "gak, this codex hasn't gotten anything new that isn't an ally for a couple years, i'm bored, and want something new".
... but yeah, there's gak loads of BA up on bartertown right now. With the market so flooded, i'm tempted to buy a well rounded army at a bargain price, sit on it until BA get a new codex or there's a new edition to see if they get a bump. *shrug*

Even during 5th our Blood Angels sometimes masqueraded as normal Space Marines, just for variety.
Currently they _are_ Codex: Space Marines until a new codex comes out.
Then again they were started when they were just red marines during 2nd edition.
