I am brand new to Warhammer 40k and I am trying to put together my first small army.

I have:
32 necron warriors
5 immortals
1 doomsday ark
1 overlord
1 lord

Please give suggestions for army lists.

Have you built all these models? I'm just wondering whether you have constructed the ark (it might serve you better at this points value as a ghost ark - friendly gamers will let you proxy it as such probably). A ghost arc either filled with warriors is probably your best bet with these models.

The ideal use for ghost arks is to have multiple blobs around them to benefit from their d3 additional repair barge warriors.

The main problem you will have is mobility - relevant for claiming/denying objectives. The units that a lot of people take (most commonly spammed) for Necrons are: wraiths, barges and scythes. All of these units are mobile and it MIGHT be worth thinking about maybe adding some of these to your army in future expansions, if you think they suit a style of play you would like to try.

For MY style of play and preference, the thing that really allows Necrons to compete is Night Scythes - you don't need 6 (though that can be fun if you like that sort of thing) but two gives you a reasonably reliable ability to put scoring units near objectives, which is a good thing generally.

I did already build it as a doomsday ark, the ghost ark looked way more intimidating to build. I will look into night scythes as well. Do you have any recommendations for what I have already?

Anyway. At 500 points and with those models, if you are allowed to proxy a wee bit, and presuming you are playing objective missions - I'd probably go -

Overlord
Sempiternal Weave
Resurrection Orb
Staff of Light

Warriors x 8 (with Ghost Ark)

Warriors x 10

that's 499 - if you are keeping them together (Purge the Alien? The Relic?) - have the Overlord join the footslogging ten for maximum reanimation goodness, otherwise send him and the eight off to capture the most valuable objective and have the other ten try and hold something on home turf maybe?

You could split the ten into two units of five, have the eight foot slog and hold hte other five in reserve for hopeful late game home objective jinx? But I think the first plan is probably better.

What way did you build your immortals? By the way, I was out a bit on the last list - you can have one more warrior in the Ghost Ark!

If you can't use the D Ark as a Ghost Ark, I'd probably not play it at this level - it dies WAY too easily. I'd probably go something like:

Overlord
Res Orb
Semp Weave
Mindshackle Scarabs

20 x Warriors (footslogging with the Overlord)
5 x Immortals (in cover near a home objective)

But I HATE this list. You are a sitting duck.

500 points list with ANY models:

Overlord (bare)

10 warriors Ghost Ark
5 Warriors - Night Scythe

Probably this. It's a game about capturing and holding objectives.

Thanks for the advice, I'm pretty sure my league will let me proxy.

Oh and the immortals aren't built yet so I could go with the gauss blasters or tesla carbines. Which would you recommend?

There is MUCH debate on the matter. For my money Tesla - if you are dropping something in rapid fire range to try to glance something t death , or take out a small unit - you may as well take 15 warriors with gauss than ten immortals - if you want survivable footslggers you want them to stay at 24" range. In which case Tesla for the win. I just love the more hits than shots Tesla when you get a good roll too (defo not science or math that.

Basically Tesla better at 12-24, gauss better at 12 and under. But since you have 32 warriors all with gauss... why wouldnt you build them with tesla...?
