Hi guys, I am reorganising my paint collection and probably getting a lot of new stuff. Is there any company out there which makes some sort of paint-holding box specifically designed for miniatures paintpots (+brushes, tools etc)

Or is there any particularly clever solution people use to store all their kit like repurposed toolboxes/ drawer systems and the like?

The important thing to me is that it can be neatly packed up and carried around in a car boot, I do not have a fixed garage/workroom to leave all this in.

Try and see if you can get hold of a mega paint set empty box that worked a dream for me, if not poundland do some segregated tool boxes which could work also.

Careful I have CDO it’s like OCD but in alphabetical order LIKE IT SHOULD BE!!!!!!

Make it idiot proof and someone will make a better idiot.

These are little more expensive (for 'little' read 'a lot'):
http://www.progeng.co.uk/paint-racks
But they have a great range.
For hauling around from 1 place to another look at a mechanic's tool box:

The one I got was much cheaper & came with all sorts of drill bits - maybe from Wilkinsons??

Check out my gallery here
Also I've started taking photos to use as reference for weathering which can be found here. Please send me your photos so they can be found all in one place!!

This is how I store my paints. A wine box is perfect height and stores my entire collection. Can move it around easily if necessary as the box is sturdy, takes up minimal room and is an extra surface when closed. Not sure if I'd recommend it, but it works ; p

Now, this is a very "specialist" solution as it requires a 3D printer, but this guy here made a special, customizeable, stackable rack for modelling paints, see here:

Hells bells, I cant wait for 3D-Printers to become really available (as in costing less than my motorcycle).

Well when I ordered my brushes from back 2 base-ix they had a really cool shelf/drawer system called The Rack that is modular and you can choose from dozens of color combinations. Bad thing is it is pricy and because it comes from australia the shipping would have costed me $30 for their two drawer+3 paint storage shelfs I guess you would call it...

These are my paint shelves. The shelf on the left was made from scrap 1/2" plywood & OSB. I then finished it off with filler and some baseboard trim to make it look sharp. The shelf on the right is the carcass of an old bathroom cabinet I found at a yard sale.

Sorry, I skimmed over the part where you needed this all packed into the trunk of a car. They aren't so useful for that purpose...

^ Woops me too, looks like a toolbox is probably your best bet and maybe if you get one of those wire brush holders that hold them suspended you could just glue that in there too perhaps... Btw I WANT your paint collection Nodri and I also have one of those Snake bike chain thingy as well lol.

Thanks for all the suggestions so far. Those lasercut workstations and paint racks are probably what I will go for, then just find the right size box to fit around them and transport it all in.

Highly recommend Back-2-base-ix but the shipping might dissuade you if you aren't in Oz. :-)

If you don't have a dedicated "Man cave" per se, I'd say grab yourself a 2 or 2 tier tacklebox for the job.

Multiple levels with adjustable bin sizes for whatever you put in it, closes up pretty compact to slide under the bed at night. Kids? All tackleboxes I've come across also have a little hole drilled to put a lock through to keep sticky fingers from fudging where ought not be fudged. Nice handle to grab for on the go, stable, etc...

Go hit your local outdoor recreation store and see what you've got to work with. Bring along a paint pot or some such to see if it'll be what you're looking for. It's a little late in the season (HA! winter...) for yardsales and garage sales, but if you've got an indoor flea market, you can grab a decent sized tacklebox for ~$5-10 (~£3-6).

Why is it that only those who have never fought in a battle are so eager to be in one?
