Hi everyone!

I'm building up a Demon army of Khorne flakes and need some suggestions on the color scheme. Now, I know, Khorne = bloodred, wine-red, dark-red, bright red, red-red and red is usually the way to go but I've seen some really cool grey bloodletters somewhere and thinking of doing something different than the typical "spray red, paint horns black"-scheme. Maybe with a purple-violet touch to it, but open to any suggestions. Needs looking good on khorne-themed models only.

You can go way beyond "red" and still stay fluffy.

Historically, Khorne has always been black, red and brass, so there's no reason you can't have black letters with red horns (would be cool if the colour change was progressive too)

Also, with rage being one of the defining characteristics, you can use lots of heat/flame colours too, to represent that they're so damn angry they're about to combust!

On the Khorne elements of my daemons, I've also tried to mix up the basic red colour, with varying degrees of success admittedly, so the larger models start at a very reddish brown moving up to Khorne Red/Red Gore as a highlight, with some of the smaller models starting at Blood Red and moving through to a reddish/orange highlight, preserving the overall theme, but keeping some tonal variation to make them interesting to look at (and to paint!)

I like the sound of grey, but, personally, there are some things that are so ingrained in me over 25 years that they don't look "right" even when well executed, and daemons in alternate colours from their main fluff colours is one of them, and while I'm sure they'd look awesome, I'm not sure they'd look like Bloodletters (to me, anyways)

Well, take a peek here, buddy:

Pretty nice work, whoever did it. Also, that grey somehow reminds me of ash (--> fire --> red --> blood --> khorne). Works for me, in some strange fashion, but i don't want to simply copycat the scheme.

So in terms of heraldic colours that would be black-red-golden. The national colours of germany. GW, what exactly are you trying to say here...?

Consider picking up some of GW's new agrellan earth (or one of their competitor's cheaper crackle paints). Go with a base coat of the brightest red you can put on there, then gob on the crackle paint. Paint the top layer in a dark ashy black color, it should look like magma with a cooling top layer. Would look pretty good across multiple models and not take that long.
