Am considering running Red Scorpions Lord High Commander Culln, he seems pretty decent compared to a normal Chapter Master with similar wargear who would clock in at about 205 (Terminator Armour, relic blade & Digital weapons) points basically the same as Culln who is 215. Culln having EW, a teleport homer, master crafted weapons (Sword and Storm Bolter) as well as optional smash attack to bypass TEQ and vehicles seems like nice buffs over the regular Chapter Master for only 10 points

I am just wondering if anyone has thoughts on his actual practical usage in a game? Is he worth it or not? I would probably deep strike him in a Terminator squad along with a unit of LoTD and maybe also Vangaurd Veterans for decent backfield threat saturation

He's nice if you're running Red Scorpions, but he's not as good in comparison anymore. Now that you can give a Biker CM Eternal Warrior and a Thunderhammer, you have options that are about as killy as Culln, but are more mobile.

The way I'd probably use him would be to put him in a Tactical Squad, and have him standing at the front to tank wounds. With EW, he can't be gotten around with special weaponry, and with 2+ FnP he's quite tough to kill. Granted, a TH/Shield Eternal/Artificer Armor Chapter Master on Foot would have a better invulnerable save, but Culln does get the advantage of AP2 at I5, even if it's only 2 attacks. The only other issue with tanking with Culln is that his warlord trait prevents him from using LoS! so you can't do shenanigans like you can with other character tanks.

Keeping Culln on foot from the beginning also allows you to benefit from his teleport homer, which could be nice if you bring drop pods or deepstrikers.

Overall, he's not an optimal pick, but if you're going Red Scorpions he's certainly a reasonable option. I'd probably go with Sevrin Loth over him if I had to choose between them though, and then a generic Chapter Master either mounted or on foot with the above-mentioned TH/Shield Eternal/Artificer Armor for tanking, as he can use LoS!.

Yeah Sevrin Loth is pretty awesome he is who I use regularly to lead my Red Scorpion along with my Terminator Captain and he tears everything up, am just thinking Culln might be fun and characterful to play in 2000ish point games
