I was wondering if a Wolf-Priest with 4 wolfguard in TDA with Combie-Plasma's and a droppod is an effective option.

The question is rather vague.
Effective option or what? Instead of what? What else do you have in your list?

Don't get me wrong wolf priests are an underrated Hq unit. But is plasma better than jaws of the world wolf for the role you want?
Are wolf guard necessary? Would grey hunters fulfil the same niche?
Is TDA needed? I usually drop in 4 wolf guard in PA and combi-metlas They make their points back 9/10, but I'm not sure terminators would.

I realise I've asked you a bunch of questions but they're important. You can't look at a unit in a vacuum.

The unit works withing the following type list at 1500
GK - Coteaz/Plama henchmen, Stormraven-DCA, Dakka Dreads x2, Soloadin.
SW allies - GH pod x2 melta, GH pod flamer + WG/TDA/HF

The list currently runs Rune Priest TDA with some melta WG, and while Jaws is awesome I find after he pops his initial target he is a sitting duck. (Also when forced to deploy defensively the Rune Staff messes with Coteaz and the Dreads).

Feeling out this unit as another sort of (elite targeting) alpha strike unit that can run a secondary role as a medicore CC unit given the 2+5+, PW and preferred enemy. (on paper 10 points more per model for TDA-PW looks nice at least).

For elite unit hunting I'd take 1 TDA WG for tanking and a free power axe and then just take 6 more PAWG with combi plas.

The WP makes plasma guns really really effective and having 2 models in TDA increases the units resilience while letting you max out the number of models in the unit.

You'll get 16 plasma shots at close range on T1, with all the awesome preferred enemy re-rolls, not a lot can stand up to that.

Would you run the WP naked with a Combie-Plasma to keep points down (letting a WG in TDA tank) or splurge for Runic Armor.

I'd take him in TDA but that's just me, Runic armor would be a better choice though, you can then take another WG in the squad for 18 plasma shots T1.

You don't NEED to put runic or terminator armor on him, esp if he's an allied warlord, but having the extra 2+ save can make a difference when you start having to roll a bunch of saves all the sudden. Basically it lets you play around with "look out sir" rolls to mitigate damage.

10 Plasma shots, 3 power weapons and 2 terminators. Not to bad of a value. I have somewhere between 7-13 points left over. Melta bomb on the RP?
