I tried to ask this in a previous thread about my Helbrute but no one bit, so I'll ask it here. First some preamble so you understand the reasoning.
I'm doing my CSM army in a sort of "war-band rebuilds itself" theme and I wanted to throw in some spice that would help to not only break up the sea of red and gold, but provide some really enjoyable fluff as well and here is my idea.
I want to paint my Helbrute in the white and blue of Pre-Heresy World Eaters, to reflect the great age of the machine as well as the Khorne Berzerkers themselves and I was wondering if anyone had any tips for this. I had a few questions too. Most importantly should I paint the musculature of the Helbrute to match the armour or should I try and make it look like demon flesh? Also how can I get the face to stand out but not be obtrusive with the white? And finally, weathering... how do I make that white and blue look like its ten thousand years old? Considering that the rest of the army is going to be the red and gold of the World Eaters what are some ideas I can use to help tie the white and blue in so the whole group looks cohesive?
I could get into the why I want to do white and blue but that's really more of a fluff conversation and all that will be revealed when I finally sit down and compile the war-band's history.
So there ya go, does anyone have any tips for this undertaking? BTW I primed it in flat black already so how should I start my basecoat?
