Hi all,

I post this because I collect vanilla Space Marines, but I paint them in my own colours. I created a chapter using the Rites of Battle sourcebook for Deathwatch, and since then have had a lot of fun writing fluff for them when I have a few minutes with nothing to do.

Have any of you done the same? If so, what scheme have you gone for?

Here's a few pictures of mine. The orange is to represent Fire and Rust, and the grey is to represent Iron. The chapter is called the Iron Devourers, and they're based on a planet famous for it's metallic ores and being covered in deserts made of rust.

edit: most of my models are second-hand from eBay etc, so there might be some odd bits and bobs sticking off of them. E.G, the almost-removed Dark Angel symbol on the Dreadnought, or the flamer marine with 2 Crux Terminatus..!

Messed this guy's head a little.

Originality is the best way!! I'm currently getting into WG and two weeks in I have a squad of Space Wolves that I'm painting ready to start my army. I too am going to try some originality and am painting them purple in a similar colour scheme to a lost chapter of SM called Shadow Wolves. I'm going to make up some fluff to make a reasonable excuse for my SW to be occupying an ancient world and colouring themselves differently. In the last picture there's a banner, did you design that yourself?

Looks cool! Are you going to have any wolfy wolves in the army? If so, what colours will they be?

I did design the banner myself. It doesn't look great at the moment, just a stencil cut from paper, but I like the design. It's a combination of an 'I' and a 'D', for Iron Devourers.

I have not long started work on my own Space Marine Chapter.
As you can see, I do like building & painting the bigger models.
(I have another 10 vehicles under construction & a large gaggle of primed figures).

I don't have too much fluff yet, but I do plan to do so, helps bring your own Chapter to life.

I like your colour scheme, and your introduction to your Chapter is cool, like the deserts of rust idea.

Forgot to say, I'm calling my Chapter, "Aureus Dracones", (Golden Dragons).
Colour scheme is Gold & Black.
Icon at the moment is a trimmed Salamander transfer, although this may change.

No idea what I need to do to the link to have the image displayed. When I get it mastered, will add closer images.

They look really flipping cool! Do you have any close-up shots? The gold looks incredible.

The way I upload photos is by using the {img} tag. Replace the { } brackets with [ ]. Type {img}www.imagelocation{/img}. I tend to upload them to imgur.com first, then put them in the {img} tag in a post.

Don't want to hijack your thread dude, so I will start another.
Any advice or criticism is welcome, as still a WIP.

More pics of yours please.

Thanks. I will have some wolfy guys and plan to make them brown with white highlights. Those gold ones look really smart I like the contrast between the wash and gold highlights. As for the banner you could try using vinyl sheets to cut your stencils and use as a paint mask.

I still only actually own 9 paints, including a black primer. I have 2 oranges and sepia wash, 2 greys and grey wash, blue, leadbelcher and imperial primer. That's why pretty much all embelishments, purity seals etc are either blue or orange! I should really buy some more.
A few more pictures of some new additions to my Iron Devourers:

I bought some terminators from eBay, and here they are:

This is a (very!) old chaplain model. One of his hands is orange, the other is grey.

Just an overview of my tacticals, 4 of my termies and some of my characters. Not all my models!

Your colour scheme looks better the more I see it, especially on multiple models. You need a tank or 2 to really show it off.

Sorry all my pics fu%#ed off, I transferred my images into an album, oblivious that it would cause this.
DOH.
Classic newb.

Of course you would say that! You've got millions!

I have some rhinos, but they're all a bit OOP... And strictly speaking, one isn't a rhino, but shhh...

Millions, I wish.
1 does look like a Chimera dressed like a Rhino, or is that just me. Lol.
Love the battle damage on the more "authentic" Rhino, how did you pull that off?
Your finish does go very well with your Chapter fluff.
Well done that man.

Truth me told, a lot of the battle damage was accidental. I decided to try and make it look incidental, but having just given my own secret away, I had better explain!

Due to a lack of disposable income, a lot of my models come from eBay (hence my '2 OOP rhinos', ahem). Some of them are, well, a state. In an attempt to remove a lot of the random things stuck in random places on the models, invariably some form of damage happens, espeically where superglue is involved. So I just, sort of, neaten the blemishes up a bit, add a few scratches and bits of crud, and treat it as battle damage. Seems to do the trick

For example, the 'melta shot' on the first pic was me trying to sort this thing out. I removed the wonky searchlights on the left, was left with a mess, made the best of a bad situation (or tried to):

Thanks for the kind words re: my fluff. If you're interested, I've just finished writing it up:

It's a series of 3 pictures, but you'll see what I mean if you look at it. I didn't want to post them as images because they're a bit... big.

Very good & professionally laid out fluff.
You saved that Rhino from a horrible fate. Lol.
