the world of carthol. a planet devastated by a single battle. the battle of mortalis. when the burning knights declared themselves followers of the ruinous powers, this entire world was consumed by a battle of epic proportions. fires burned across its swamps. orbital bombardment from the few ships in orbit smashed the few cities to bits. by the end of the battle the planet was almost just a giant ball of dirt. the planet's lush swamps burned by the followers of khorne. the planet was turned into a memorial, both by the followers of chaos and the forsaken knights. the lord of the new war band saw to it that his servants did not attack their once brothers during the conversion of the world. monoliths were made to fallen heroes, and eventually, the names of all those who died in the battle were repeated 1 thousand times, so as to represent how many times both groups would destroy the other. but now, hive fleet kraken threatens the world, a million+ feral aliens swarm over shrines and desecrate sacred places. the forsaken knights and the burning knights bear arms together, to protect thus most sacred of worlds.

so, fluff aside, what kind of terrain am I looking at making for this Campaign, suggestions, pictures, ideas all appreciated.

Sounds like you have some options. For general terrain I see a moonscape crater ridden hell. The swamp areas would have lots of wet mucky areas with hosted and burnt tree trunks, dead creatures sticking out of the mire, and the swamp water littered with skulls and tinted red with the blood of the fallen. Then you have my favorite, the ruined urban areas. Check out images of bombed out cities from WW2 for inspiration.
