If an emplaned weapon on a fortification is set to automated firing it has to target the closest I engaged enemy unit.

Non-battle brother allies are treated as enemy units. Under this logic would the fortification set to auto be targeting my allied detachment if it is not a battle brother?

Page 112 will tell you if you can target Allies of Convenience or Desperate Allies.

Plus the new Stronghold Assault book should have new rules for them.

New rules? I suspect it will just be a reprint collection of the rules that come with these fortifications and nothing "new". Still buying it any way.
