One Canoptek Scarab in a Swarm

Heya All, my friends and i recently decided to get into warmahordes. we've played a few games now and are really enjoying it, and for the most part, have the basics down. But theres a few things i've tried to find in the RB/Errata, and haven't been able to locate or figure out....

1. I play TB's and was wondering about a few things, i see people talking about casting animus buffs on units, im assuming this is done though the warlock casting said animus as a spell, but does it buff the whole Unit and UA?

2. lots of abilities/ animus/ spells are phrased in such a way that the ability/animus/spell wouldn't work against the opposing faction I.E. Talisman of subdual from madrak 1, says he cannot be slammed etc from WARBEASTS thats started in his front arc.... does this not work against warjacks?
or another example claw and fang game type where "only warlocks and warbeasts are allowed" quite often i see people referring to enemy beast/jack when discussing rules on these abilities/spells/game types but i was wondering if there is anything official written faq/rb/errata etc where this is more clearly explained or if its taken for granted that they are referring to enemy models/units oooorrr if those abilities/animus/spells just dont work against the opposing faction and claw and fang is an auto win for Hordes

any help, rb page references etc are much appreciated, and ty in advance for any useful info!

1) It depends if the spell says 'model', 'model/unit', or other things. If the spell says 'model' then you would be able to cast it non (for example) one Fennblade. If the spell says 'model/unit' then you cast it on any Fennblade from the unit (including the UA) in range, and it effects the whole unit.

2) a) Phrasing is really important in WM/H, so when it specifically says 'warbeast', it means 'warbeast'. Not warjack. Hence spells like Arcantrik Bolt lose out against warbeasts, and items like the Talisman of Subdual lose out against warjacks.
b) Not 100% sure on the whole Claw and Fang thing, but from your description it sounds the same as Mangled Metal, which allows only a warcaster and his/her/it's warjacks.

I wish I had time for all the game systems I own, let alone want to own...

1) As motyak said, its entirely dependent on the verbiage. In warmachine, the rules mean exactly what they say. If it says model, it means that particular model. If it says unit, it means the entire unit. If it says Warbeast, it means a warbeast. and so on and so forth. And a Beast can cast its animus on a unit just like the Warlock can, assuming the unit is a valid target(Animus doesn't specify Warbeast only or have a range of Self)

2) You are correct. When something specifically mentions Warbeasts or Warjacks and doesn't mention the other it will not work against it. The same with Fury and Focus, they are not interchangeable terms. Morghoul's Feat says you cannot spend Focus or be Forced while in his command range. This does not prevent the spending of Fury because it does not say it does, so a Warlock is perfectly capable of doing everything as normal while a Warcaster can only sit on his Focus.

With all PP rules, they are very cut and dry as to what they mean. You cannot read between the lines or anything. They mean exactly what is written, nothing more and nothing less.

The Tooth and Claw scenario, and Mangled Metal, assume you are only playing Hordes vs Hordes, or Warmachine vs Warmachine. This is just to prevent confusion. In reality, you will treat them as interchangeable. Tournaments will not distinguish between those rules, it simply means Battlegroup only and that is that.
