Alright Dakkadakka, I may have gotten myself into a tiny bit of a bind. One of my favorite models, and as a matter of fact; one of the models that got me into fantasy, is the big goblin Araknaroch spider. Well I came upon a deal for one to cheap to pass up. So now me and my Skaven army have a gigantic spider. Well besides drooling over the potential for me to convert the crap out of it, I'm going to Skavenize the howdah, make the goblins slaves, and strap a warp lightning cannon to the back. I'm at a loss for what the spider can represent , it's too big to be a HPA, same thing with a brood horror, and it would be a terrifyingly huge unit filler, so am I stuck with a very cool but useless model? Or could I use it as a storm of magic/monstrous arcanum creature?

I think the closest thing you could use it for would be a HPA.

yeah, its on a base twice as big as the HPA, but that's actually a disadvantage so I think it would be ok in friendly games. You wouldn't want it in a competitive game because of the disadvantage it would give you(easier to hit with a cannonball, more frontage for enemy models to attack, and harder to maneuver)

Alternatively, you might just wait for the new book when it eventually comes out. Skaven will probably get some sort of huge nasty that uses that base.

There was some sort of mega Warp Lightning Cannon in one of the supplements if I remember correctly - maybe Blood in the Badlands.

I can't remember if they created rules for it...

But your conversion sounds fun. You could have a bash at writing your own rules.

I'll check out blood in the badlands if I can find a copy, but yeah I'll get working on it once finals are over, and I can post progress pictures.

Could it not be converted to be on an HPA base?

HPA is on a 60mm by 100mm base,
Arachnorok is on a 100mm by 150mm base.

Even two Helpits side by side don't match it in size.

But I agree that the Arachnorok is probably one of the best warhammer models. I'd definitely play you with that as a HPA.

If you're opponent agrees, you could maybe also try to field it as an actual aracnarok spider with a warp lightning cannon. You could also try to make your own unit with it as well (but I doubt that it would see many games this way). Aracnarok spiders are also creatures in storm of magic so your opponent might be okay if you throw your converted one in.

So you have to trim about 40mm on width and 50mm length. Can you not reposition the legs to achieve that result?

Even that huge base is small for the thing. There is nothing to shave. Atleast not on the width. The length you may be able to manage with some overhang.

I would say run it as a WLC if you don't mind being at a disadvantage, otherwise I'd go with the Blood in the Badlands skaven woot beam. I'm sure someone would copy the rules for you if they had the book!

One of them filthy casuals...

We don't really play storms of magic but we occasionally pull out the monsterous arcanum, so I'm sure they would let me just use it as a big skaven spider, though for everyone's sake the cannon would simply be aesthetic.

Yeah, same here. It's called the Warp-Doom Magma Cannon or something.

Pose it so it is stood on six legs dual wielding Warp Lightning Cannons. May as well go for the ridiculous!

Well if you guys want crazy I do have a few conversion projects in the pipeline that I'm planning on getting done while i'm still home for the holidays, so stay posted, I'll probably just re-name the Arachnarok thread into a Skaven conversion thread.

Maybe you could find a way to throw him in as a weird plague-furnace or something?

Well I kind of went on a very circular path in order to find a way to use this guy, I just decided to start Orcs and Goblins!
