Hi all, I have been creating some hexagonal tiles for a space game we are playing. I am just curious as to people thoughts who have used hextiles in the past. IIt seems to be a 50/50 like and hate thing with them.

The games I have been playing use them as huge hexes int he first game that can be put together to make scenery. The other game uses small rough 1 inch hexes for measurement.

Just curious as to people views. The seem to be better for space based and seas based games to me whereas I have not seen dundeon crawlers use them at all.

Any views?

I haven't seen dungeoncrawlers using hexes since mage-knight.

They were a thing for D&D back in the day, but even then, the dungeons tended to be drawn up on square grids.

Last game I saw being played on hexes was Battletech.

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).
Old enough to know better, young enough to not give a ****.

I like hexes for a lot of purposes however I am fine with squares for dungeons.

Corridors and rooms are generally rectangular, so the hex grid pattern does not fit.

You can use a grid of 50% offset rows of squares. It works out the same as a hex grid for counting distances, and looks and works better for square corners.

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.
