I always hear orks are for fun, not for winning. And yes, when I am losing I can have just as much fun, if not more then when I am winning.

However, with a high powered Warboss and retinue ( 7 models, around 350 points) and basic troop choices + powerclaw and Iron gob ( +1 leadership) I found Kult of Speed to be quite a pain in any Chaos player's rump.

Its all in the sacrifice, give them one squad or two, set up for the burna boys by sacrificing a squad or two of trukk boys.

My army list has 8 burnas in it, 1 squad of burna boys, 1 squad of skarboys with 3 burnas.

Orks are so cheap in points I field about 40 orks, a high powered hq, battle wagon fully juiced, looted leman russ, and a big mek with retinue shooting the 4 bolt on shootas on the battlewagon.

Sacrifice is the key word, give them the lesser squads to set up for orky shooting and more brutal squads.

More power weapons and powerclaws the better, as with any army

A Kult of Speed army can have up to 11 burnas, 5 in a burna boy squad ( mekboy can carry one at hvy point cost) 3 in skar boys and 3 in 'ard boys.

Zzap gun on the battlewagon is key, 2d6 str autohit, then add 2d6 for armor penetraition.

I dont win everytime, but I haven't had a battle that wasnt at least close in a long long time.

Sounds like you probably have a lot of terrain partially up the board, which is needed to hide the trukks so well.

Do you use buggies to screen your trukks? Also you use the Nob retinue? I've almost always found that they're not worth it for what they do, especially if you're going to give them mega armor.

If I hit the lotto and suddenly have alot of free time I'm going to build a speed freeks army with giant buggies to hide my mini trukks. That would be hilarious.

I have warboss in mega armor, and 2 nobs in mega armor. The rest of the nobs are jsut basic nobs + 'eavy armor ( 28 points each) I also give warboss and the 2 mega armored nobs all Kustom jobz.

I dont use buggies, I want as many boys as I can, I screen my burna boys, skarboys, and HQ with trukkboys.

I only need to screen one round though, cuz then I zip everyone to the enemy side of the board with turbo boosters and red paint.

So the trukks can be blown up, lose 2 - 3 boys average, come out behind the trukk and wait for your next turn. Now your within range to shoot and assault.

Half the time I'm in the assault in the first round if I deploy correctly. But round 2 is when the fun starts.

Also forgot to mention I use warbikes, regular warbikes. They are really hit or miss, but usually see some action.

Dakari_Mane has an army that does just that, as did the KoS player who i massacred in Heat 2 and who later got himself disqualified in the final. It works okay, but not that well.... the buggy screen turns into either difficult terrain, over which buggies can easily immobilise themselves, or it gets pen 5/6d off the board.

Da Southern New Hampshire!

KoS roxxorz in higher point games, where you have a dozen trukks.
In 1k - 1.5k games you really really need to work on the trukks and anti-tank balance.
My solution? Burnaboyz and/or Tankbustas.
No fancy HQ (I have a mek with a 4+/5+ save and a burna, whoop-de-doo), no fancy pants vehicles (I cant include my russ in 1k games), and most certainly no battlewagons (Hi! Im AV 13 open-topped! Please give me armored top!).
Right you also need to deploy right or youre going to get pen'd off the board in the first few turns.

You die by IG if they get first turn, you die by shooty marines if they get first turn, and you most certainly die first turn by Tau.

The problem is orks still die orks.
I had one game where I managed to charge 2 squads of 10 marines with 2 squads of 10 orks.
I managed to wipe them both out but next turn he shot one squad to bits and the other squad was charged by a Special Character and slaughtered.

I had like 4 squads at the start. Having 2 bite it was horrible.

If at first you don't succeed, you fail.

@ Mauleed - He failed to include a transport for his warboss.

@ KoS players - The KoS took a big hit in 4th  Ed with the new transport rules & the nerfing of the KFF. If you combine this with 50% escalation missions in most competitions (Your whole army starting off table, coming on in dribs'n'drabs allowing your opponent to pick you off a bit at a time or even move on after the main part of your army strength has been commited to an attack against a tiny part of his army). In a competition enviroment you need to work really hard to do well & hope you dont run into a good player with a good army or else you are in deep trouble & better start looking for ways to limit the damage.
