How many challenges can there be issued per combat? Only one until the combat ends (someone breaks or are whipped out) or as soon as the previous challenge have been completed (one of the fighters have died).

The rulebook seems unspecific as it talks about phases and ¨per combats

One 1 challenge at a time. Challenges are issued at the start of close combat round. The Challengers continue to fight in all rounds until 1 dies or the unit breaks.

That i know, I meant if there can be several challenges during the duration of a combat. Ex: a combat phase end where one of the challengers have died but the loosing unit holds. Can then a new challenge be issued at the next close combat phase? The rulebook is a little vague on this point.

yes it can as there is no challenge at that start of combat to prevent a new one from being issued, the only restriction that is in place is that at any one time during any one combat there may only be a single challenge regardless of the number of units involved in the combat.

for example, if you had a horde of gobblins fighting a horde of empire swordsmen both with full commands, and a unit of knights charged the flank of the goblins and were in turn charged by a unit of savage orks (so you now have 4 units in a single combat) and a challenge had been issued between the goblin and swordsman's unit champions, the knights wouldn't be able to challenge the orks or the goblins until that challenge had been resolved, either via slaying or via one of the two units breaking.

It sounds to me as if you're asking something like this.
Orcs, vs Elves. 2 character each
Combat starts and the orc challenges. Elf accepts..Kills the orc. Can the other orc declare a challenge?
No he cannot. Not until the following turn.
Challenges are done at the start of combat.
I.E. if for some freak reason you have 2 unbreakable units with 3 characters each. Once the initial challenge has been made and accepted. There will be no new challenges until one of the characters dies.
Like Nutty said, even if more units flank the combat the same challenge will stand.
Once one dies another challenge can be issued.

Dissent is not disloyalty.

A challenge can start at the beginning of any round of any CC if a) there is a character or unit champion on each side and b) there isn't another challenge taking place in that cc.
